NeighborWorks Housing Solutions Celebrates Upcoming Opening of the Sycamore on Main in Brockton with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

NeighborWorks Housing Solutions (NHS), the leading housing service provider in southern Massachusetts, celebrated its newest development in downtown Brockton with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by residents, city, state and housing officials on Thursday, June 24.  Residents are expected to begin moving in by the end of next month.

Located at 121 Main Street in Brockton, The Sycamore on Main is a mixed-use, Enterprise Green Community-Certified building featuring 48 units of modern residences with 2,600 square feet of first-floor retail space, which will soon be occupied by Brockton Beer Company.

(L-R): Rob Corley (CEO NeighborWorks Housing Solutions), Chrystal Kornegay (Executive Director of MassHousing), Robert Sullivan (Mayor of Brockton), Representative Gerry Cassidy, and Senator Walter Timilty

The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew a crowd of local residents along with city, state and housing officials who all characterized The Sycamore on Main as a very positive step for downtown. Cindy Prendergast, NeighborWorks’ Brockton Project Director, said that it was “a great day for Brockton.” Her sentiment was echoed by Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan, who applauded the team effort and termed the development a “game-changer” for Brockton. He recalled that his parents actually met on the very site where they celebrated, which at one time housed a movie theatre.

Chrystal Kornegay, Executive Director of MassHousing, which played a role in the funding of the project, commended NeighborWorks and the team for their mission to bring additional quality housing to the city, adding, “We were honored to be a part of this process.”

Tim Doherty, Real Estate Development Director for NeighborWorks, singled out the efforts of their architectural partner, Utile, for designing a building that fits in so well with its surroundings, noting “it looks like it has been here all along.”

Other officials attending the ceremony included State Representative Gerry Cassidy, State Senator Walter Timilty, State Senator Michael Brady, and Plymouth County Register of Deeds John Buckley.

NeighborWorks CEO Rob Corley thanked everyone who played a part in getting The Sycamore on Main off the ground, saying “Five years ago this was a vacant lot. We are committed to doing all we can to help people who need housing.” He added, “This new development, along with several others, are proving that downtown Brockton is a great place to live, work, and play.”
