Interview with Gary Veloric, Managing Director of Mufson Howe Hunter

Gary Veloric, who describes himself as a creative dealmaker, financial whiz and serial entrepreneur, has served as the managing director of Mufson Howe Hunter, a middle market investment bank, since January 2023.

Prior to joining Mufson Howe, Veloric ran Red Stripe Plane Group, which he co-founded in 2007. Red Stripe gave Veloric a front seat in emerging internet-era companies in music, technology and streaming, as he became an expert in disintermediation and brand fragmentation. The firm has also provided financial and intellectual capital to entrepreneurs in healthcare, media, sports, hospitality and real estate, among others.

Veloric began his career at Geriatric & Medical Companies, a publicly traded long-term care company, in 1982, months after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from American University. He went on to hold several leadership roles at Geriatric & Medical, and eventually a board seat, too.

But within a decade, Veloric was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, co-founding J.G. Wentworth, a specialty finance company. He grew the small Pennsylvania-based merchant banking firm into a titan in structured settlements.

Outside business, Veloric has two strong affiliations. One is with the nonprofit MusicCares, which is affiliated with the Recording Academy, and the second is American University’s Entrepreneur Center, where he serves as a business mentor. In 2023, his family aided the establishment of The Veloric Center for Entrepreneurship at American University’s business school.
