International Grocer Selects Meadows Shopping Center For Initial Entry Point Into Baltimore Metropolitan Area

Specializing in American and international foods from more than five continents, Global Food, a Virginia-based chain, plans to open its seventh location within the Baltimore/Washington region

Global Food, a fast-growing regional supermarket chain specializing in American and international food, has selected Meadows Shopping Center in Baltimore County as the site for its initial entry point into the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. Owned by Supermax Enterprises, the Virginia-based grocer signed a lease with Atlantic Realty Companies for 36,360 square feet of space and intends to open within the 115,000 square foot community shopping center fronting Security Boulevard in Woodlawn this fall. Jai Kim of Kemper Morgan Realty represented the tenant and Michael Patz and Matt Copeland of KLNB represented the Landlord in this leasing transaction.

Meadows Shopping Center is located at 6660Security Boulevard at the signalized intersection of Security Boulevard and Woodlawn Drive and is less than one-quarter of a mile from the Baltimore Beltway (Interstate 695) and Interstate 70 and is anchored by dd’s Discounts, Family Dollar and Walgreens.  The presence of Global Food will elevate visibility, consumer traffic and sales from its wide community draw.

Headquartered in Sterling, Virginia, Global Food currently operates supermarket stores in the Alexandria, Manassas, and Woodbridge markets in Northern Virginia and in the Silver Spring and Oxen Hill markets in suburban Maryland.  In addition, Global Food operates its internet sales and logistics divisions as well as its distribution center from Sterling, Virginia.

The supermarket concept focuses on providing a full complement of American and International food items including household staples. Global Food also carries a full complement of Asian, European, Indian, Latin, and Middle Eastern food specialties. Full and part-time employees will be hired from the local community to work at the store.

“The Baltimore metropolitan area became the next logical opportunity to continue with our expansion in the region.  Meadows Shopping Center was selected because of its ideal combination of location, roadside visibility and proximity to a diverse population,” explained Michelle Lim, Human Resources Manager of Supermax Enterprises. “Expanding as a regional grocer has largely been attributed to being well-organized, having a wide selection of products and providing a fast, easy and enjoyable grocery shopping experience. We are also committed to being community friendly by engaging with the communities we serve.  The shopping center’s central location in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area, with immediate access to the beltway, provides the perfect launching point for our expansion into this market.”

“Grocery stores are typically the highest traffic generators for shopping centers and, in Global Food, we have attracted a compelling and successful concept to Baltimore County and a supportive community”, explained David A. Ross, President of Atlantic Realty Companies.  “In 2020, Meadows Shopping Center was further renovated to include new façades, new lighting and landscape enhancements.  With more than 350,000 people residing within a five-mile radius of Meadows Shopping Center, we are confident Global Food will provide significant value to the center and the community it serves.”

An added dimension to Meadows Shopping Center is its daytime attraction to more than20,000 employees that work within close proximity to the center including the employees at the Social Security Administration Headquarters directly across the street.

“Every resident deserves access to fresh, healthy foods right in their neighborhood, which is why we are thrilled to welcome a growing business like Global Foods to Woodlawn and the Baltimore region,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “Bringing a new grocery option—and new jobs—to Woodlawn will help us eliminate gaps to food access and further strengthen our communities as we continue our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“I am pleased that Atlantic Realty Companies was able to achieve its goal to bring a grocery store to our community and to welcome Global Food and its complement of local and international foods to Baltimore County,” stated Maryland State Senator Charles Sydnor (District 44). “Global Food made an excellent choice in locating its grocery store in Woodlawn. I look forward to its grand opening and welcoming Global Food to our wonderful community.”
