
NYC-based firm welcomes distinguished attorneys representing ultra high net worth clients in matrimonial law as well as expertise in LGBTQIA+ family law matters
Schwartz Sladkus Reich Greenberg Atlas LLP (SSRGA) announces the expansion of its Matrimonial and Family Practice with the addition of Eric I. Wrubel, Alexis L. Cirel, Jennifer Sundt and Rose H. Vacanti Gilroy. All four attorneys will join the firm’s existing Matrimonial and Family Law group, catapulting its already prestigious practice to new heights by adding complex financial matters of ultra-high net worth clients and introducing nuanced and cutting-edge representation to the LGBTQ+ community.
Eric I. Wrubel joins the Matrimonial and Family Law practice group as a partner. Wrubel is the Immediate Past President of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has been practicing law for nearly thirty years in the areas of family and matrimonial law with a particular interest in family law issues for LGBTQIA individuals. Wrubel is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers and has handled ground-breaking international cases regarding foreign prenuptial agreements as well as custodial, parentage and adoption issues. Wrubel has significant experience in handling divorces for ultra-high net worth clients with nine-figure estates. Wrubel was lead appellate counsel to the appellant, the Attorney for the Child, in the New York Court of Appeals’ case of In the Matter of Brooke S.B. v. Elizabeth A.C.C, which forever changed the definition of a “parent” in New York to include members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Wrubel was one of three finalists to receive the 2017 Attorney of the Year Award from the New York Law Journal and he has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2010. Wrubel lectures frequently and has written numerous articles on issues including child custody, pre-divorce planning, parentage for LGBTQIA+ families and valuation issues. Wrubel was an adjunct professor at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where he taught a class on the financial aspects of divorce.
Alexis L. Cirel joins the Matrimonial and Family Law practice group as a partner and is the founding partner of the new Fertility Law practice. Cirel rejoins SSRGA after having been a partner with the firm from 2019-2021 and brings with her a distinguished background as a recognized leader in the field of assisted reproductive technology law nationwide and an experienced and well-regarded matrimonial attorney. Cirel also offers specialized counsel at the intersection of fertility law and her robust matrimonial practice, particularly in matters involving embryo disputes. Cirel is one of approximately 200 attorneys nationwide to receive the distinction of being named an Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) Fellow of the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys (AAAA). Cirel is a frequent guest speaker and panelist at professional conferences and law schools on family and fertility law issues, and her written work has been published in the leading law and medical journals.
Jennifer Sundt joins the firm’s Matrimonial and Family Law practice group. Sundt represents individuals in a wide array of family law matters. An experienced trial attorney, she has litigated cases involving asset distribution, spousal support, child custody and access, relocation, child support, and parental rights. Sundt has successfully handled numerous appeals and has been recognized for her pro bono work in securing parenting rights for non-biological same-sex parents. Sundt worked for the Hon. Ellen F. Gesmer, Associate Justice of the Appellate Division: First Department for two years, when Judge Gesmer sat in the Supreme Court’s matrimonial part. Thereafter, Sundt worked as a court attorney for the Hon. Laura E. Drager for two years, conferencing matrimonial cases with counsel to resolve issues and drafting decisions on motions. Sundt has practiced exclusively in the area of matrimonial and family law and has also served as an Adjunct Law Professor teaching Family Law at New York Law School.
Rose H. Vacanti Gilroy joins Matrimonial and Family Law practice group as an associate. Gilroy is also an associate in the Fertility Law practice group. Her practice encompasses both traditional matrimonial and family law matters and the rapidly evolving area of reproductive family law. Vacanti Gilroy assists clients in a range of matters, including surrogacy and donor arrangements and establishing parentage. Gilroy was lead counsel in a parentage matter in Family Court, Queens County and second chair in a highly contested custodial trial. Gilroy has guest lectured at the Georgetown School of Law on various family law issues.
