What is AV Laboratories?
AV Laboratories is a clinical-grade skincare company rooted in biotech and built around the science of skin longevity. Our mission is to innovate at the intersection of science and skincare with products that deliver real, visible results. Our carefully curated product portfolio includes Face Serum, Face Cream Light, Eye Cream, and Face Cream Rich – all powered by our patented longevity technology, AVL SOM3®. Our revolutionary Molecular Skin Care System is proven to empower your skin to renew, restore and rejuvenate, for healthy-looking, radiant skin, at every age.
What’s your background and why did you start AV Laboratories?
My background is in molecular biology and I’ve spent my career focused on how we can use science to drive real biological change. I have two Master of Science degrees, one from Georgetown University in Physiology and one from Virginia Medical School in Biomedical Research in Molecular Biology. I did my undergraduate work at University of Guelph earning a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Genetics.
Over the years, I’ve co-founded several companies in the biotech space, including EvolveGene, a genetic testing company, and CaseBioscience, where we developed technologies to support the growing needs of the cell therapy and stem cell research community. At CaseBioscience, we brought together a world-class team of scientists to design innovative, cGMP-compliant tools for clinical research in regenerative medicine. That experience gave me a front-row seat to the power of cellular health and also the complexity of translating that science into meaningful products.
The idea for AV Laboratories came from that same passion. My co-founders and I realized that the principles we were applying in our research to create optimal environments for cellular repair and regeneration also had real potential when applied to skincare. We started testing those concepts and were blown away by the results: improved skin wellness, collagen production, and overall skin complexion.
Now, with AV Laboratories, we’re proud to bring that science to consumers through clinically backed, biologically sound formulations that support true skin longevity.
How is AVL different from others in the crowded skincare space?
Given our scientific foundation, our overarching approach is slightly different as we see ourselves as a biotech company that happens to focus on skincare. One of our core differentiators is our AVL SOM3® technology that powers all of our formulations to provide skin with the exact nutrition needed to renew, restore, and rejuvenate, for total skin wellness. With AVL SOM3® we took the mathematical process of simplex optimization, which has been used in cell therapy and regenerative medicine for decades, and applied it to the skin, resulting in a formula that provides skin with precisely everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t, for radiant skin.
While the beauty space is not a highly regulated field, we hold ourselves accountable and have our own in-house R&D facility in Europe and a molecular research center in Colorado where we test our products to ensure we are providing real, clinical results that contribute to people’s skin wellness on a molecular level.
What do you think is the future of skincare?
One of the most exciting things about working in this space right now is how much the consumer has evolved over the last couple of years. We’ve seen that consumers are wanting to better understand the science behind what they’re putting on their skin by reading ingredient lists, researching clinical data, and asking thoughtful questions. In short, they have become far more discerning and invested in the efficacy of skincare products and I think we will continue to see more of this.
With that in mind, I think the future of skincare is going to be deeply rooted in providing consumers with more transparency, especially as skincare grows in the biotech space. As a biotech and longevity brand, it’s not just about treating the surface of the skin, it’s about supporting skin wellness on the molecular level, in a way that’s sustainable and scientifically sound, which resonates with our mission at AV Laboratories.
What’s next for AV Laboratories?
We’re really just getting started and have lots of new products on our roadmap that we cannot wait to bring to market. In April, we debuted our Face Mist, which is perfect for moisturizing anywhere on the go and an ideal refresher for the upcoming warm summer days. Beyond products, we’ll also be announcing some exciting new partnerships in the near future so stay tuned and find us on social @AVLLaboratories.
