Mission-Driven Hotel Partners with Award-Winning, Natural Beauty Brand Oyin Handmade to Set a New Standard for Guest Experience, Ensuring That All Travelers, Particularly Those with Highly Textured and Curly Hair, Feel Truly Seen and Catered To
An opportunity often missed in the hotel industry is recognizing that guests with natural and textured hair have distinct hair care needs, leaving a segment of the community underserved by conventional hotel amenities. An innovative partnership of two cutting-edge Baltimore institutions, Oyin Handmade, the award-winning Black and woman-owned haircare brand, and Hotel Revival, the historic Baltimore hotel known for its social impact, community engagement and cultural influence, now offer the beauty brand’s moisture-rich hair care products to guests with highly textured, curly and coily hair. Joining forces, the partnership bridges a gap, providing high-quality, ultra-hydrating hair care that empowers guests to feel confident and cared for during their stay.
Co-Founded by Jamyla Bennu in 2003 as a solution to the lack of natural, hydrating hair products in the beauty industry (at the time), today Oyin Handmade is a cult favorite artisanal brand and manufacturer that creates a range of high-performance products with clean formulas and premium ingredients including raw Honey, organic Aloe Vera juice, Shea Butter and Beeswax to name a few.
Once a grand 1920’s mansion owned by the esteemed philanthropist and suffragist Mary Elizabeth Garrett—who played a key role in advancing women’s education and rights—Hotel Revival is now an award-winning boutique hotel in the vibrant Mount Vernon neighborhood, with the mission of carrying forward the spirit of empowerment, inclusion, and community impact. Less than a mile from the Inner Harbor and within easy walking distance to local shops, restaurants, museums and art galleries, the hotel is renowned for its glamorous yet homey mid-century interiors. Hotel Revival boasts over 100 guest rooms, a rooftop restaurant, a cocktail lounge, popular karaoke rooms and a buzzing coffee shop. This award-winning hotel is internationally recognized for its commitment to Baltimore and success in local social impact endeavors.
“In spaces where personal care products are provided – whether in hospitality, healthcare, or educational settings – a ‘one size fits all’ approach often excludes people with hair like mine. Guests with textured hair are accustomed to bringing their own products or simply doing without. This partnership with Hotel Revival is a step toward changing that narrative,” shared Oyin Handmade Founder, Jamyla Bennu. “By choosing to meet the diverse needs of their guests and supporting a small, locally owned business in the process, they are demonstrating a powerful model of impact and inclusion.”.
Furthermore, Hotel Revival Director of Impact Jasmine Garland shared, “Hotel Revival is breaking new ground in the hospitality industry by offering complimentary textured hair care products as a standard amenity. While many hotels provide standard hair care options, few consider the unique needs of guests with textured hair. By introducing this thoughtful offering, we are ensuring that all guests feel seen, valued, and accommodated during their stay”
For every guest, Hotel Revival creates a personalized, thoughtful experience with pre-arrival emails and in-room touchpoints showcasing the offering. Guests can request Oyin Handmade’s Honey Wash Shampoo, Honey Hemp Detangling Conditioner, Hair Dew Leave-In Lotion, and Juices & Berries Herbal Hair Refresher as a complimentary amenity, all crafted with high-quality, food-grade ingredients. Full-size versions of the products, including the Oyin Handmade What The Hemp Deep Moisture Mask, are also available for purchase in the hotel’s Corner Store, featuring an array of products from local, women-, BOPIC- and LGBTQ+-owned businesses.
“This partnership aligns with Hotel Revival’s ongoing commitment to cultivating a diverse network of vendors, supporting community-based businesses, and fostering a stronger, more inclusive Baltimore.” shared Garland. “This initiative is more than just an amenity—it’s an investment in our local community. By partnering with Oyin Handmade, a Black-woman-owned, Baltimore-based brand, Hotel Revival is intentionally directing its purchasing power toward small businesses that reflect the culture and diversity of our city. This collaboration aligns with our mission to uplift and support entrepreneurs in our community while providing guests with premium, locally sourced products.”
As part of its ongoing commitment to community impact, Hotel Revival selects a nonprofit each quarter to support and amplify. Through the Community Love Rate, the hotel donates $10 from every room booked to the featured nonprofit, along with $1 from select offerings in its restaurant outlets. In Q1, Hotel Revival partnered with CLLCTIVLY, an organization dedicated to funding and uplifting Black-led initiatives. In Q2, the hotel is partnering with Baltimore Safe Haven, which provides essential resources, housing, and holistic support to LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly Black trans people, to promote safety, stability, and empowerment.
Additionally, the partnership reinforces Oyin Handmade’s mission to make clean, high-performance haircare products available to consumers everywhere.
“This partnership follows our 2022 collaboration with the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) which introduced texture-conscious amenities to patients, marking another milestone in Oyin Handmade’s mission to ensure textured hair receives the care it deserves.” shared Bennu.
The Oyin Handmade’s x Hotel Revival partnership is more than just a new collaboration; it is a call to action for the entire hospitality industry. With this initiative, Oyin Handmade and Hotel Revival are setting a new standard in inclusive hospitality by being the first to consider highly textured, curly and coily hair. In turn, the initiative encourages other hotels to create more inclusive travel experiences for all their guests as well. By truly focusing on representation, whether it’s offering inclusive products or supporting local businesses, Oyin Handmade and Hotel Revival are paving the way for lasting changes in how hotels approach guest amenities.
Oyin Handmade products are available on request at the Hotel Revival from March 2025.
