Skycharger, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, is pleased to announce the appointment of John Friedrich as its new Chief Development Officer. With a distinguished career in transportation electrification, renewable energy, and sustainable infrastructure development, Friedrich will spearhead strategic initiatives to expand Skycharger’s footprint in the clean transportation sector.
Friedrich brings extensive expertise in securing and managing multimillion-dollar grants, leading large-scale clean energy and transportation programs, and collaborating with government agencies to advance decarbonization efforts. His deep understanding of zero-emission fleet transitions, workforce and community development, and environmental policy makes him a key asset as Skycharger continues its mission to revolutionize EV infrastructure.
“John’s leadership and proven track record in clean energy and transportation electrification align perfectly with Skycharger’s vision,” said Andy Karetsky, President of Skycharger. “His ability to secure funding, develop strategic programs, and work with stakeholders across public and private sectors will be instrumental in scaling our impact and accelerating the transition to a zero-emission future.”
Throughout his career, Friedrich has led initiatives that have transformed the clean energy landscape. He played a pivotal role in securing a $10 million California Energy Commission (CEC) grant for Skycharger’s electric truck charging hub at the Port of San Diego. Additionally, he has led teams to develop nine CEC-funded blueprints to assist ports, private fleets, and municipalities in transitioning to zero-emission vehicles.
Friedrich’s experience also includes serving as the Program Manager for Clean Energy, Efficiency, and E-Mobility at Liberty Utilities, where he managed EV charging programs, formulated 100% renewable energy strategies, and oversaw incentive programs for residential and commercial solar and energy efficiency. His recent public service as a South Lake Tahoe city council member demonstrates his commitment to advancing sustainable policies, including championing a 100% renewable energy transition by 2030.
“I’m thrilled to join Skycharger at such a pivotal time for clean energy and transportation,” said Friedrich. “Skycharger is at the forefront of deploying innovative charging solutions that are essential for transportation electrification and a resilient energy future, in a way that benefits workers and communities. I look forward to helping expand the company’s impact through strategic development and partnerships.”
As Chief Development Officer, Friedrich will focus on expanding Skycharger’s project pipeline, securing funding opportunities, and strengthening partnerships with fleet operators, municipalities, workforce developers, community groups, and private enterprises. His appointment underscores Skycharger’s unwavering commitment to delivering cutting-edge EV infrastructure solutions that support widespread electrification and a more sustainable future.
