Unlocking the Future: Associated Black Charities Brings Teen Financial Literacy Summit to Empower Baltimore’s Youth

Associated Black Charities is excited to announce its Teen Financial Literacy Summit, taking place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Towson University from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. This dynamic, free event is designed to equip young people aged 12-16, along with their adult guardians, with essential financial knowledge and skills for success in today’s world.

Presented by SECU, the summit will offer an exciting day filled with interactive workshops, expert-led sessions, and practical discussions on crucial financial topics such as entrepreneurship, budgeting, investing, employment, and philanthropy. The event will also feature the Malik’s First Job curriculum, developed by Kerwyn Phillip, MBA, focusing on key skills like job search techniques, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and managing assets and liabilities.

“The Teen Financial Literacy Summit is more than just an event—it’s a movement toward economic empowerment for our youth. At Associated Black Charities, we believe that financial knowledge is a cornerstone of generational wealth. By equipping our young people with the skills to budget, invest, and build financial independence, we are ensuring a stronger future for Baltimore’s Black communities.” – Chrissy Thornton, President & CEO, Associated Black Charities.

The summit will provide participants with hands-on learning experience, offering resources, tools, and guidance to help them navigate financial challenges and opportunities. Teens will also gain insight into building a solid financial foundation and achieving financial independence.

“The Teen Financial Literacy Summit is a vital step toward closing the racial wealth gap by providing long-overdue financial education to the community. It’s great to see the Associated Black Charities taking action toward a solution.”– Kerwyn Phillips, Creator of Malik’s First Job.

Thanks to the generous support of SECU, all participating teens will receive valuable financial resources and support to help them start their journey toward financial success.

“SECU is proud to sponsor Associated Black Charities’ Teen Financial Literacy Summit on March 15! This free event empowers teens (12-16) and their guardians with essential financial knowledge. Plus, new SECU members who open a membership & checking account onsite will receive a $100 bonus!” said SECU in a statement.

This event aims to empower not just the youth, but their families as well. Through this multigenerational approach, both teens and their guardians will walk away with the knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions and secure a brighter financial future for all.

Free parking will be available at Towson University, and the venue is easily accessible via public transportation. Registration is required, and all teen participants must be accompanied by an adult.
