
Charlottesville, Va.-based Teachstone, an EdTech startup focused on teacher-student interaction, has named former investment banker Karlo Young as its new CEO. Young will succeed co-founder and CEO Bridget Hamre, who will transition to the role of chairman.
Most recently, Young was president of Baltimore-based Concentric Educational Solutions, where the industry veteran led efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism in K-12 schools and build individualized support for students facing barriers to success.
Teachstone said Young will leverage his “passion and expertise” to drive strategic growth and lead Teachstone in its next phase as it continues to have a greater impact in classrooms globally.”
“I am honored to join Teachstone at such a critical moment in education, where supporting educators and enhancing classroom quality has never been more important,” said Young, who as an investment banker served Signal Hill. Young has also held senior positions at consulting firms Deloitte and KPMG.
Founded in 2008 by Dr. Robert Pianta and Hamre, Teachstone is a Certified B Corporation that partners with education systems nationwide. Its proprietary professional development solution, Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), and other technology tools helps thousands of schools and programs measure and enhance the classroom interactions and enrich learning.

Under Hamre’s leadership, Teachstone built partnerships with the Office of Head Start, the U.S. Army, Teach for America and statewide quality improvement initiatives. In her new role as chairman, Hamre will focus on bringing together researchers, policymakers and educators in a bid to further transform education.
