GBC to Host 2nd-Annual Pulse Check: The Scorecard Summit

Signature milestone event benchmarking major deal activity and investment announcements will feature the debut of the Baltimore Region economic brand

The Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) will host its signature milestone event quantifying the region’s economic activity: 2025 Pulse Check: The Scorecard Summit, on Monday, March 17, 2024, at Towson University (University Union Ballroom – 8000 York Road). The event will serve as a key milestone in GBC’s mission to position the Baltimore Region as a premier hub for economic opportunity, innovation, culture and creativity.

The event will showcase the second Annual Investment Scorecard, presenting a look into announced investments and expansions across the Baltimore Region in 2024. Building on the success of last year’s Scorecard, the 2025 edition will illuminate the impact of strategic investments on the region’s economic momentum. The 2024 edition of the Annual Investment Scorecard analyzing 2023 economic data across the Baltimore Region provided a snapshot of more than 300 announced investments totaling more than $3.5 billion. This year’s Pulse Check event will update the impact of that quantified economic data.

“The Annual Investment Scorecard is an invaluable tool for measuring our economic progress and driving informed decision-making about how to supercharge the growth of strategic industries,” said Lakey Boyd, Chief Economic Officer of the GBC. “Pulse Check provides a unique platform to connect regional leaders, showcase data-driven insights, and chart a bold path forward for the Baltimore Region.”

This year, the event’s strategic focus on capturing the breadth of the region’s economic footprint will be augmented by the unveiling of the Baltimore Region economic brand, developed in collaboration with Resonance Consultancy Ltd., Ipsos, and Timbre Strategies. The unveiling of the regional economic brand will be foregrounded by panel discussions featuring the region’s most influential dealmakers explaining the significance of their investments and how the brand initiative can inform future growth.

The event is expected to draw over 300 business leaders from sectors that include life sciences and predictive technology, real estate, economic development, and manufacturing.

“The Baltimore Region economic brand represents a bold vision for our future,” said Mark Anthony Thomas, President and CEO of the GBC. “It’s a unifying narrative that celebrates our strengths, acknowledges our challenges, and positions the region for sustained economic growth and global competitiveness.”

Pulse Check is the first of GBC’s signature milestone events scheduled for 2025. The Baltimore Region Investment Summit, an official SelectUSA Investment Summit spinoff, will happen on May 15, 2025, and will further highlight the region’s growth potential and strategic opportunities for investment, spotlighting opportunities in the tech sector, aerospace and defense, logistics, and manufacturing.

“Tracking economic progress and maintaining a cohesive regional narrative are essential to driving investment and innovation,” said Thomas. “The Investment Summit serves as the foundation for positioning the Baltimore Region’s economic strengths and attracting investment, while the Baltimore Region economic brand is how we communicate that momentum, ensuring we are telling a compelling and cohesive story that enhances our ability to compete on a national and global scale.”

Pulse Check: The Scorecard Summit will begin with networking at 4:00 p.m., followed by the program at 5:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the University of Maryland Medical System, Merritt Properties, Towson University, and The Baltimore Sun.
