OrthoMaryland Celebrates 100 Years of Excellence with Expansion into Harford County

OrthoMaryland, a trusted leader in orthopaedic care since 1925, is proud to commemorate its 100th anniversary with the opening of a state-of-the-art facility in Abingdon, MD, its first in Harford County. Located at 3401 Box Hill Corporate Center Drive, Suite 120, the new 6,400-square-foot location will open on Friday, January 24th, and reinforces OrthoMaryland’s commitment to delivering exceptional, patient-centered care to the communities it serves.

“As we celebrate 100 years of compassionate care and orthopaedic excellence, we are proud of our history and excited for the future,” said David Buchalter, M.D., president of OrthoMaryland. “Our new Harford County location reflects our continued commitment to meeting the needs of our patients and communities with innovative and personalized care.”

A Legacy of Trust and Innovation

Founded in 1925 by Dr. Moses Gellman, OrthoMaryland has grown from a single practice in Baltimore to Maryland’s oldest continuous independent orthopaedic group. Over the last hundred years, the practice evolved through the dedication of physicians such as Dr. Larry Becker, Dr. Jerome Reichmister, Dr. David Filtzer, and more – establishing a reputation for advanced musculoskeletal expertise.

Today, OrthoMaryland is part of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics and remains committed to innovation, community, and patient-centric care. Fourteen physicians provide over 50,000 patient visits annually across three locations, along with a team of 18 physician assistants and physical and occupational therapists. As the oldest continuous independent orthopaedic group in Maryland, OrthoMaryland offers general orthopaedic, sub-specialty orthopaedic, and physical medicine and rehabilitation care, both operative and non-operative.

Meeting a Growing Need in Harford County

The decision to open a location in Harford County was driven by patient demand and feedback from local healthcare providers. Community physicians emphasized the need for timely orthopaedic care in the area, and OrthoMaryland is answering the call with a comprehensive range of services tailored to the needs of Harford County residents.

The new location will feature:

  • Walk-In Orthopaedic Care for immediate assistance with injuries and orthopaedic needs
  • Physical Therapy to support recovery and rehabilitation
  • On-site X-ray services for quick and accurate diagnostics
  • A full Durable Medical Equipment (DME) suite to provide patients with necessary supports and aids without delay

With orthopaedic and therapy providers available daily, Monday through Saturday, OrthoMaryland expects to serve approximately 2,000 orthopaedic patients and 2,000 physical therapy patients in its first year in Harford County.

“As an independent, privately-owned practice, OrthoMaryland has the flexibility to make patient-centric decisions that prioritize quality and care,” added Dr. Buchalter. “Our expansion into Harford County reflects our mission to be here for our community—wherever and whenever we’re needed.”

Looking Ahead to the Next Century

As OrthoMaryland embarks on its second century, the practice remains dedicated to the principles that have defined its legacy: exceptional care, innovation, and a commitment to community. With multiple locations and extended hours, OrthoMaryland continues to set the standard for orthopaedic care in Maryland, meeting the patients where they are and when they need it.
