Witherite Law Group Provides Coats For More Than 450 Students This Winter In Annual ‘Coats for Kids’ Giveaway

Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck are partnering with Fort Worth ISD for the annual “Coats for Kids” giveaway to provide much-needed coats for students in the district this winter. The coat giveaway will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cowan Place, 5400 East Rosedale St., Fort Worth, Texas 76105. Local vendors will provide food as well as holiday music, photos with Santa, and other activities. More than 450 coats will be distributed to youth and young adults, grades Pre-K – 12th grade.

“We’re four years into the neighborhood revitalization initiative, which is designed to improve the quality of life for residents of the Stop Six community, specifically, and we continue to supplement those efforts by providing youth with much-needed resources throughout the year,” said Dr. Carlos Walker, director of the Fort Worth ISD Family Acton Center and a board member for the Fort Worth Housing Solutions. “For the ninth consecutive year, we’re working with Witherite Law Group to provide coats for kids as their families gear up for an unpredictable winter season.”

At an estimated 13.4% – 121,000 out of 907,000 people – the poverty rate in Fort Worth is higher than the national average of 12.5%. Therefore, children in the community may lack the financial resources and essentials for the basic standard of living, including appropriate clothing for critical weather conditions that often impact North Texas. Witherite Law Group and its partners are supplementing the existing efforts to transform the community, helping residents on their path to self-reliance and vitality.

“My mother was a teacher in Fort Worth, and I was born and reared in the city, so I have firsthand knowledge of the challenges that residents face,” said Amy Witherite, owner of Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck. “Providing coats for children is personal because of my connection to the community, and I am grateful to the Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center for years of partnership to ensure our children are warm during the winter.”

For many years, Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck have provided coats for Fort Worth ISD students during the holiday season, donating more than 2,500 coats, totaling more than $70,000 in donations, over the years.

Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center and Witherite Law Group worked with the Fort Worth Housing Solutions and case managers through Urban Strategies Inc. to help identify and register students from the area who need coats. In addition to the coat giveaway, Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck recently provided turkeys and groceries to thousands of Dallas/Fort Worth residents in one of the largest Thanksgiving food giveaways in the metroplex.
