The Arc Baltimore CEO Kathleen Durkin Named to Daily Record’s List of Most Admired CEOs

Winners Recognized for Leadership, Vision, Professional Accomplishments, and Community Service

Kathleen McNally Durkin, Chief Executive Officer of The Arc Baltimore, has been named to The Daily Record’s 2024 list of Maryland’s Most Admired CEOs.

Most Admired CEOs honors talented business CEOs, higher education leaders, and nonprofit executive directors throughout Maryland whose leadership and vision are admired by those around them. A panel of judges selects winners based on professional accomplishments, community service, and the letters of reference submitted by co-workers, board members, and community leaders showing the CEO’s leadership and vision.

“Since taking over the reins of The Arc Baltimore in 2017, Kathleen has proven to be an inspirational leader whose vision, integrity, and compassionate respect for each person we support has driven The Arc to even greater heights as Maryland’s largest provider of support to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families,” says Tiana Wynn, President of the Board of Directors of The Arc Baltimore and a Partner at SB & Company, LLC.

A graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Scranton, Durkin started in the disability services field as a volunteer and then worked in direct support positions before moving into managerial roles at several organizations. She joined The Arc Baltimore in 2001 as Director of Quality Assurance. She was promoted to Associate Executive Director in 2004 before being named Deputy Executive Director in 2010 and to her current position in 2017.

Durkin has previously been honored as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record and as The Arc Maryland Outstanding Advocate of the Year. She is a Past President of the Maryland Association of Community Services, a graduate and board member of Leadership Baltimore County, and a member of the Baltimore County Commission on Disabilities. She serves on numerous state-level task forces that transform support for people with developmental disabilities.

“This year’s Most Admired CEOs have gained the respect and praise of those around them. They are truly admired by their peers, teams, and the community,” says Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, Managing Director of BridgeTower Media/The Daily Record. “They make a positive impact on the lives of others and mentor future leaders. We at The Daily Record are pleased to honor their significant accomplishments.”

The winners will be honored at a celebration on November 7 at the Hilton BWI, 1739 West Nursery Road in Linthicum Heights. Food stations, drinks, and networking begin at 4:30 p.m., with the awards celebration at 5:30 p.m., followed at 6:30 p.m. with dessert, drinks, and networking. The event hashtag is #TDRevents.
