1-800-TruckWreck Awards Nearly $900,000 to Students and Job Seekers Through Educational Scholarships

A record-breaking donation from a privately-held company aims to offset the cost of higher education for students, under- and unemployed persons in three of the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S.

1-800-TruckWreck, powered by Witherite Law Group, announced that for the second consecutive year, it will make a record-breaking donation from a privately-held company to fund educational scholarships through its “Making a Difference” scholarship and job readiness programs. The financial contribution of nearly $900,000 will be awarded to those interested in pursuing higher education in Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas-Fort Worth – 1-800-TruckWreck office locations.

Post-secondary education offers skills that provide lifelong benefits, including increased access to job opportunities, preparation for specialized careers, and increased marketability and earning potential, which equate to more economic stability. Often, the increased cost of attending college, trade schools, and the like is a deterrent for most individuals. 1-800- TruckWreck and its partners, Fort Worth ISD, Atlanta Public Schools, the Chicago Urban League, the Nickerson Family Legacy Foundation and the North Lawndale Employment Network, are working together to assist students who want to further their education.

“There is a demand for skilled workers across all industries – especially after ‘The Great Resignation’ of 2021. The best way to learn these skills is to obtain training from a higher education institution. Unfortunately, many new graduates and job seekers opt to forgo such education due to the financial commitment,” said Amy Witherite, owner of Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck. “Through our scholarship fund, we hope to make the dream of post-secondary instruction a reality for those who want to attend. Doing so could drastically change the trajectory of their lives and set the foundation for multi-generational success.”

This year, 170 graduating seniors were awarded $425,000 in scholarships, and $407,500 in scholarships will be renewed for an estimated 163 previous recipients who maintained a 2.0 GPA and took at least 12 credit hours, for a total of $832,500 in scholarship funds awarded by 1-800-TruckWreck. Additionally, 35 participants in Chicago’s North Lawndale Employment Network “Craft Your Path” program received a total of $50,000 in funds awarded by 1-800-TruckWreck. The grand total of educational funding provided by 1-800-TruckWreck this year is $885,000.

“As a proud recipient of the ‘Making a Difference’ scholarship, I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible support provided to me during my college journey,” said Heavonly Boykin, a recent college graduate and recipient of 1-800-TruckWreck’s ‘Making a Difference Scholarship.’ “Thanks to their generosity, I was able to pursue my academic goals with confidence, knowing that I had the support of an organization that believed in me. As I approach graduation and prepare to embark on a new chapter in my life, I am truly humbled by the opportunities that have been made possible through 1-800-TruckWreck’s investment in my education.”
