Schwartz Sladkus Reich Greenberg Atlas LLP announces Andrew Bauer has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner.
With over two decades of legal experience across government, private practice and in-house, Bauer brings a unique perspective to the firm. He spent six years as a federal prosecutor with the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York (SDNY), most notably as a member of the Securities and Commodities Task Force leading high-profile cases involving securities fraud and other white collar crime. Afterward, Bauer was a partner at a large international firm, specializing in White Collar Criminal Defense, Crisis Management, Litigation and Securities Enforcement. Bauer then transitioned to in-house roles, serving as General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel to both early- and late-stage fintech companies. First, he helped lead the legal teams at two companies within One Zero Capital’s portfolio, including Better Mortgage Company. Prior to joining SSRGA, Bauer served as Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to Pagaya Technologies, an artificial intelligence-powered fintech operating in the lending space.
With his arrival, Bauer will join the firm’s existing Startups and Emerging Companies practice group, as well as the firm’s Business and Corporate practice group. SSRGA is also pleased to introduce three new practice areas that Bauer will help lead. On the corporate side, Bauer will build out a General Counsel Services practice area group with SSRGA’s other lawyers already serving clients in that capacity. Bauer will also build out the practice areas of Investigations and White Collar Criminal Defense, and Crisis Management and Strategic Response.
Bauer is a seasoned counselor with a wealth of experience as a federal prosecutor, defense attorney, and general counsel to technology startups. He serves as outside general counsel to several businesses, particularly startup and technology companies, advising on complex and sensitive corporate and regulatory issues. He is a corporate generalist and problem solver who speaks the language of entrepreneurs, and regularly handles internal and government investigations, white collar defense, litigation, executive compensation, and employment matters.
“We are thrilled to welcome Andrew to SSRGA,” said Steven Sladkus, SSRGA co-founding partner. “He will be instrumental in expanding our capabilities. Andrew will enable us to offer counsel to tech start-ups and their executives in need of day-to-day or strategic legal leadership, as well as those facing a crisis, whether prompted by the government or internally.”
“Andrew’s extensive experience across government, in-house, and private practice make him an invaluable addition to our team, offering a depth of knowledge and strategic insight that will greatly benefit our clients’ specific legal needs,” said Jeffrey Schwartz, SSRGA co-founding partner.
Bauer added, “I’m really excited to join the SSRGA team, a firm known for its forward-thinking, innovative strategies and unwavering commitment to excellence. It’s a firm both of entrepreneurs and for entrepreneurs, and I’m thrilled to be part of its impressive growth story.”
Bauer earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and obtained his Juris Doctor from University of Michigan Law School, graduating cum laude.
