Debevoise & Plimpton LLP announces that litigation partner Jyotin (Joe) Hamid will become the next co-chair of the Litigation Department as of July 1. Mr. Hamid will succeed Mary Beth Hogan, who is retiring at the end of this year, following 11 years as co-chair of the Department and 33 years at the firm. The Department’s other co-chair, Andrew Ceresney, former Director of Enforcement at the SEC, will continue in his role.
“Mary Beth’s leadership has helped ensure that our legendary Litigation Department continues to be the first call for clients facing the most complex and challenging disputes and investigations,” said Presiding Partner Peter Furci. “As co-chair, Mary Beth has helped establish the Department in new areas, including AI and digital currency, and build an exceptional litigation practice in our San Francisco office. Personally, she has led numerous high-profile investigations and served as a trusted mentor to the next generation of Debevoise lawyers. We thank her for her outstanding service and wish her the best in her new chapter.”
Deputy Presiding Partner Nicole Mesard said, “Joe is a highly respected, veteran litigator known to his clients for his strategic and savvy lawyering and to his colleagues for his integrity, teamwork and commitment. Peter and I are gratified that the Litigation Department will have two tremendous leaders in Andrew and Joe, who embody our firm’s longstanding history of excellence and client service, and who will lead the group into the future.”
Over his nearly 30 years of legal practice, Mr. Hamid has held many senior roles within the firm, and currently serves as co-chair of the Employment Litigation Practice, co-leader of the People Solutions Group and a member of the Management Committee. A seasoned trial lawyer with extensive courtroom experience, Mr. Hamid focuses his practice on employment litigation and other complex commercial litigation matters, including whistleblower, discrimination, contract, compensation, IP and employee mobility disputes across a broad range of industries. Mr. Hamid also counsels employers on their most sensitive personnel matters, including investigations of alleged executive misconduct.
