Creative Savings Program Rewards Members and Local Nonprofits

Program Revamp Rewards Members and Local Charities

Neighborhood Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial organization and the oldest credit union in the DFW metroplex, recently relaunched its Prize Savings Account, which rewards members for saving. And with the program’s revamp, each month, one of four local charities – North Texas Food BankThe Family PlaceBoot Campaign and the SPCA of Texas – will receive a donation.

With nearly half of people in the United States having $1,000 or less in their savings accounts, and 28% of Americans having no money saved for retirement, Neighborhood Credit Union’s Prize Savings Account rewards its member for saving and makes a donation on their behalf to one of the four local DFW charities. With a minimum deposit of $25, members receive one entry into a monthly Prize Savings drawing for every $5 they save. Members are eligible for monthly cash prize drawings of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000, culminating with the annual grand prize of $49,999.99.

“Statistics show that only 57 percent of U.S. adults demonstrate financial literacy, so it’s incumbent upon our organization to explore creative ways to help our members take charge of their financial future and have a little fun in the process,” said Chet Kimmell, president and chief executive officer, Neighborhood Credit Union. “And we’re already seeing the benefits. Several of our members, who have been awarded the monthly cash prize drawings, have seen their savings almost double.”

According to Kimmell, the Prize Savings Account has a double benefit – engaging with and rewarding Neighborhood Credit Union members while also giving back to non-profits in the communities where its members and employees live and work.

“As a not-for-profit organization, we are in the business of helping people achieve their short and long-term financial goals so it’s important that we are investing in other non-profit organizations within the communities we serve,” said Kimmell. “Our donations to the selected charities on behalf of the monthly Prize Savings Account winners will make an impact in our community whether helping to close the hunger gap in North Texas, providing life-improving programs for veterans and their families, ensuring animals gets exceptional care and a loving home, or helping victims of family violence become survivors.”
