80th Anniversary of D-Day Observed in Falmouth

The 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion will be observed in Falmouth on June 6, 2024 with a presentation at 10 am and solemn wreath ceremony at 11:30 am to commemorate the event.

The observance will be held at the Waquoit Bay Yacht Club on Waquoit Bay where much of the military training was held 80 years ago.  Training also took Washburn Island.

Joe Yukna, president of the Cape Cod Military Museum, will give a multi-media presentation on Cape Cod ties to D-Day with special focus on Washburn Island, Waquoit Bay, Camp Edwards, and other Cape Cod locations.

Following the presentation, there is a reception, after which the public is invited to a wreath-laying ceremony in the Bay to commemorate D-Day and to memorialize the lives lost during that campaign. The wreath ceremony will include an honor guard and remarks by public officials. All activities are free and open to the public.

The Waquoit Bay Yacht Club is located at 20 Waquoit Landing Rd., East Falmouth Mass.  Parking is available at club. There also will be a shuttle van available, courtesy of the Disable American Veterans, for overflow parking at the Waquoit Congregational Church on Parsons Lane and Route 28.
