Housing Leadership Council Awards Pulte Homes And The Delray Beach CDC For Legacy Housing Preservation Project

The Palm Beach County Housing Leadership Council recognized national home builder PulteGroup and the nonprofit Delray Beach Community Development Corporation (CDC) for partnering on a creative project called “We Are Home.”

The two received an Impact Award for the program, which aims to fight displacement and protect homeownership in Palm Beach County’s communities of color. The Housing Leadership Council presented the award at its Housing Heroes Luncheon on May 9.

“PulteGroup is proud to be part of the We Are Home project; contributing affordable housing units in Palm Beach County is a priority for us as a company,” said Brent Baker, PulteGroup’s Southeast Florida Division President. “I congratulate everyone who had a hand in making this creative program a success.”

In Nov. 2023, “We Are Home” delivered the first three houses in Delray Beach’s historic Set neighborhood.

The initiative was born out of a comprehensive community-led and informed neighborhood plan to build affordably priced homes on the private properties of legacy families in The Set community. Residents identified vacant lots or lots with dilapidated tear-down homes where existing landowners will qualify to finance new-construction homes. This way, they can remain living in the area where they have strong ties.  Home prices are set by Palm Beach County’s Workforce Housing Program based on the family’s ability to pay.

“We are very honored to receive the Impact Award,” said Ali Levin, Executive Director of The Delray Beach Community Development Corporation, which manages the “We Are Home” project.  “I think it’s a testament that we are on to something that works and can be sustainable. I want to thank PulteGroup and all of our great partners (Valley Bank, Stuart & Shelby, Thrive Foundation, and PBC), and The Set community, for making this project a reality.”

The Community Development Corporation hopes to expand We Are Home throughout Palm Beach County.
