Miles & Stockbridge Expands Into New York

Miles & Stockbridge, an Am Law 200 law firm in the mid-Atlantic region, announced today that it has expanded into New York with the opening of a Midtown Manhattan office and hiring of veteran transactional finance lawyer William R. Wagner.

Wagner, who joined as a principal in the firm’s Real Estate and Transactional Finance Practice Group, helps clients structure and negotiate secured and unsecured credit facilities. He works with corporate borrowers, private equity firms, portfolio companies, agent banks, financial institutions and specialty lenders in U.S. and foreign markets on these transactions. He also regularly counsels clients in connection with financial restructuring and insolvency matters, and legal issues related to the purchase and sale of distressed assets and strategic investments in distressed companies.

Wagner has practiced law in New York for 30 years, most recently as a partner in the New York office of an Am Law 100 firm. Today he moved into Miles & Stockbridge’s new Class A office space at 1185 Avenue of the Americas adjacent to Rockefeller Center.

“We’ve taken a bold step in the strategic growth of Miles & Stockbridge along the East Coast,” said Nancy Greene, chairman, president and CEO. “We have been connected to the New York market for a long time with our private equity, financial services, real estate, litigation, and family law clients, as well as civic and community relationships, so having a physical, permanent presence in Manhattan allows us to help existing clients with their legal needs, build new relationships in the city and add to our bench in a market with a deep talent pool. We took a similar step when we opened our Washington, D.C. office a dozen years ago and Richmond more recently, and have had great success serving clients in both markets. While our clients are the ultimate beneficiaries of these expansions, we are equally excited for the new opportunities they present for Miles & Stockbridge.

“Our new office space is ideal for our entry into the New York market for its proximity to our clients. Its landmark location is close to our Northeast regional trains and we have the flexibility to add space as we strategically expand our presence in New York.”

“I’m thrilled to join Miles & Stockbridge and to continue my practice with an outstanding group of transactional finance lawyers and other colleagues already working in New York,” said Wagner. “During my interviews, I was struck by the enthusiasm and energy throughout the firm, and I’m excited to be a part of that and to bring that positive energy to my clients. To help the firm launch in New York at a pivotal time for clients—when they are navigating an ever-changing market—makes it all the more exciting.”

Since the beginning of the year, Miles & Stockbridge has welcomed public finance and real estate lawyer Melissa Messina and white collar lawyers Warren Allen and Ray McKenzie to the firm.
