BioConnects Appoints Liz Zulick, Ph.D. As Chair Of External Advisory Committee

BioConnects New England (BCNE), a multi-state coalition that aims to connect hubs throughout New England to support existing and establish new biomanufacturing infrastructure as a pathway to increase employment and educational opportunities for underserved regions and populations, announces Liz Zulick, Ph.D. as chair of the coalition’s External Advisory Board (EAB).

In this capacity, Dr. Zulick will lead the committee, comprised of experts in education and industry across the region, to leverage the region’s position as the largest hub for biotechnology research and discovery to create a robust biomanufacturing industry and accelerate innovation and economic growth in the northeast.

Dr. Zulick is Vice Chancellor for Strategic Planning and Projects at Northeastern University, leading and implementing key organizational initiatives that support the Office of the Chancellor’s priorities.  She also serves as Interim Senior Vice Chancellor for Education Innovation at Northeastern, overseeing an array of programs, including experiential learning, faculty training, and international programs.

“I look forward to the tremendous opportunity to serve as Chair of the BCNE External Advisory Board,” said Dr. Zulick.  “The mission of BCNE is critical for not only the success of the biotechnology industry in New England, but also for the students, educators and researchers in our communities. I am excited to work with the Advisory Board to accelerate innovation and lead economic growth.”

Dr. Zulick joined Northeastern’s College of Professional Studies in 2016 as an Associate Teaching Professor, overseeing the BS in Biotechnology program.  She subsequently served as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, Associate Dean of Research, Innovation, Development and Entrepreneurship, the Faculty Director of Healthcare and Biotechnology, and as Director of the Lowell Institute School.

Dr. Zulick received a Bachelor of Science in biology and anthropology from Union College, a master’s in public health from Boston University, School of Public Health, and a Ph.D. in molecular medicine from Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Zulick has been a panelist at numerous educational conferences, and has co-authored and contributed to many peer-reviewed articles.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce Liz as chair of the External Advisory Committee,” said Jared Auclair, co-lead of BCNE, interim Dean of Northeastern’s College of Professional Studies, Vice Provost of Research Economic Development, and Director of the Biopharmaceutical Analysis Training Lab at Northeastern University. “She is a highly recognized scientist and educator and a long-time strong advocate for the education of low-income students.”

About BioConnects New England

BioConnects New England is a multi-state coalition dedicated to creating a robust and inclusive biomanufacturing cluster in the regions of Massachusetts, Maine, and Rhode Island. This coalition connects hubs throughout New England to support existing—and establish new—biomanufacturing infrastructure as a pathway to increase employment and educational opportunities for underserved regions and populations that have been historically excluded from the biotechnology industry, one of the fastest-growing sectors in New England with national importance.

Created through a Phase 1 Finalist grant through the Build Back Better Regional Challenge in 2021, BioConnects New England has grown to include nine coalition members – The Biopharmaceutical Analysis Training Laboratory at Northeastern University, The Roux Institute at Northeastern University in Portland, Maine, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, The I-195 Design and Innovation District in Providence, Rhode Island, Rhode Island Commerce, The University of Rhode Island, and Focus Maine – and over 40 partners across the northeast.
