Seasoned Tax Attorney Elizabeth J. Atkinson Joins Baker Donelson As Shareholder

Elizabeth J. Atkinson, a tax attorney with more than 30 years of experience, has joined the national law firm of Baker Donelson as shareholder in the Firm’s Baltimore, Maryland, and Falls Church, Virginia offices.

Ms. Atkinson’s experience spans areas of tax planning and compliance, with a concentration on assisting her clients in federal and state tax controversy matters. Her background includes advising clients of all sizes on tax compliance and general mitigation of tax and penalty risks. While she serves clients across industries, she has a particular emphasis on working with health care organizations.

Prior to joining Baker Donelson, Ms. Atkinson served as co-chair of the Business Department at a national law firm. She also worked for 15 years with the Internal Revenue Service, where she gained extensive knowledge of the internal processes and protocol.

A Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel, Ms. Atkinson serves on the boards of directors for the Center for Taxpayer Rights and the William & Mary Tax Conference and is chair of the Advisory Board of the Community Tax Law Project. She previously chaired the ABA Tax Section Low Income Taxpayers Committee, the Taxation Council of the Virginia Bar Association, and served as president of the Hampton Roads Tax Forum.
