Holy Cross Health Receives Accreditation from American Nurses Credentialing Center Practice Transition Accreditation Program

Holy Cross Health earned accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP).
The PTAP sets the standard for residency or fellowship programs that transition registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) into new practice settings. Under the leadership of Crystal Caruthers, MSN, R.N., Nurse Resident Development Manager at Holy Cross Health, the program has demonstrated excellence in preparing residents for thriving careers in nursing.
“I am so proud of Crystal and her team,” said Taren O’Brien, MSN, R.N., Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Administration at Holy Cross Health.
When it was established in 2008, the Vizient/ American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) Nurse Residency Program at Holy Cross Health became the first nurse residency program in Broward County. Caruthers was part of the program’s first graduating class. In its 16 years, more than 550 nurses have since been trained and graduated.
The year-long residency program helps transition new nurse residents into their first clinical role. The program implements an evidence-based curriculum that focuses on leadership, patient outcomes and professionalism, while also building confidence, improving decision-making skills, enhancing clinical nursing leadership practices and promoting the incorporation of research-based evidence into practice. Residents train in a simulation lab, get hands-on practice with specialty equipment and therapies, can enroll in Broward College nursing courses and receive mentorship, career development and shadowing opportunities.
The Nurse Residency Development Specialist and the Professional Practice team are lifelong resources for graduates of the program, offering continuing education, certification and navigation of transfers and promotions throughout the Holy Cross and Trinity Health system, of which Holy Cross Health is part of.
“Holy Cross Health is committed to the next generation of nurses. The residency journey is just the beginning of a long, fulfilling career,” said Mark Doyle, President and CEO of Holy Cross Health.
