Pitango Gelato to Open at The Wharf

Pitango Gelato & Coffee will debut its sixth gelatería at The Wharf on May 1, 2024. The new riverfront shop can be found at 605 Wharf Street, SW, in the Amaris condo building.

“We’re thrilled to be opening our newest shop at The Wharf,” says Pitango CEO Dinah Bengur. “Our mission is spreading joy, and we are excited to do so in one of Washington’s most exciting, beautiful, and fast-growing neighborhoods.”

Pitango’s Wharf location will serve 20 rotating gelato and sorbet flavors crafted with a traditional Italian Carpigiani freezer.

A local purveyor of artisanal Italian gelato and craft coffee since 2007, Pitango places an emphasis on simple, high-end ingredients, from pistachios grown in Sicily’s Mt. Etna region to single-origin chocolates sourced from Côte d’Ivoire. Pitango makes its own gelato using organic milk from grass-fed Maryland cows; its sorbets are handmade from whole, fresh fruit. Pitango products contain no pre-made mixes or syrups, preservatives, or artificial colors or flavors. Batches are churned in each shop to ensure the freshest possible flavor. “Pitango fans appreciate our obsession with pure, wholesome ingredients,” says Bengur. “They love that our mango sorbet tastes like real mangoes—since it’s made from bushels of fresh fruit.”

In addition to frozen treats, Pitango also serves a full menu of premium coffees, along with a variety of croissants, cookies, scones and pastries made in-house daily. The coffee menu features signature espresso, cold brew and drip blends created in collaboration with Vigilante Coffee, a DC-based roaster. Each blends contains high-quality beans sourced from around the world on small, fair-trade, sustainable farms.

Grand Opening Celebration: To mark the grand opening, Pitango Gelato & Coffee invites the Washington, DC, community to join in an array of exciting activities, including Instagram giveaways and free coffee cards for the first 50 customers. The grand opening will take place at 605 Wharf Street SW, Washington, DC 20024 on May 1, 2024.
