Edgemere, a premier senior living community in North Dallas, is pleased to announce Charles Plafcan as its fitness and wellness coordinator. Plafcan brings more than 40 years of health and wellness experience to the community. Plafcan started with Edgemere in 2007, as a fitness coordinator and served in that role for 15 years before rejoining Edgemere in 2024.
Plafcan offers specialized workout programs and personal training for residents. He is widely known across the community for “Agercise,” a fitness program tailored specifically for older adults, and it is exclusively available at Edgemere. It combines elements of low-impact aerobics, chair dance aerobics, strength training, balance exercises, and creative movement all set to upbeat and enjoyable music.
“The key to effective workouts is having fun,” said Plafcan. “Not everyone is eager to work out, but when they leave my class with smiles and laughter, they are more likely to come back. I love playing throwback music, inviting everyone to dance and sing along. Often, the residents are having such a blast that they completely forget they are exercising! I am excited to be back at Edgemere and sharing my passion for fitness with residents.”
With the Aerobic boom in the 80s, Plafcan embarked on his fitness journey teaching aerobic classes to people of all ages. Later, he pursued a master’s degree in professional counseling at Amberton University and obtained his certification as a licensed professional counselor with the State of Texas Board of Professional Counselors. After years of training, he found working with older adults was his calling.
“Charles is an inspiration to our residents,” said Layla Barron, assistant director of lifestyle. “His unwavering dedication to their well-being is remarkable. He creates a vibrant community where everyone feels motivated and supported. We are fortunate to have him at Edgemere.”
