Leadership Howard County will hold its annual Big Event featuring guest speaker Father Greg Boyle, a Jesuit priest and founder of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, the largest gang-intervention, rehabilitation and reentry program in the world. Boyle and two formerly gang-involved individuals will present “You’re Still on the Fastest Route: Arriving at a Community of Cherished Belonging.”

When:

Wednesday, May 8
11 a.m. registration and networking
11:30 a.m. lunch and program

Where: Turf Valley Resort, 2700 Turf Valley Road, Ellicott City

A native Angeleno and Jesuit priest, from 1986 to 1992 Boyle served as pastor of Dolores Mission Church in Boyle Heights, then the poorest Catholic parish in Los Angeles that also had the highest concentration of gang activity in the city. In 1988, he founded Homeboy Industries, which serves high-risk, formerly gang-involved men and women with a continuum of free services and programs.

Boyle is the author of the 2010 New York Times-bestseller “Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion.” His newest book, “Barking to the Choir: The Power of Radical Kinship,” was published in 2017.
