BioConnects New England (BCNE), a multi-state coalition that aims to connect hubs throughout New England to support existing and establish new biomanufacturing infrastructure as a pathway to increase employment and educational opportunities for underserved regions and populations, has entered into a partnership with Northeastern University’s Research Team, the Town of Marshfield, the Marshfield Public School District, and the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce to create the Atlantic Resiliency Innovation Institute (ARII).
The independent non-profit will bring together scholarly, community, and industry resources to provide workforce development and incubate next-generation coastal hazard mitigation technology solutions in an effort to improve resiliency in Marshfield, the South Shore, and Eastern Massachusetts. Lessons learned as a result of the federally funded research lab can then be applied regionally across Northeastern US and beyond.
In addition to developing new coastal hazard mitigation solutions, ARII focuses on integrating educational pathways for young adults and promoting career success in civil engineering, environmental and coastal management fields.
“Better understanding our region’s coastal hazard risk and developing mitigation policies and solutions is critical,” said Jared Auclair, co-lead of BCNE as well as vice provost of Research Economic Development and director of the Biopharmaceutical Analysis Training Lab at Northeastern University. “This unique partnership will bring to market new coastal hazard mitigation solutions, enhance community resilience, heighten career opportunities, and establish a science-based community on the South Shore.”
