Eduardo J. De la Peña Bernal Joins Shutts & Bowen’s Miami Office as Partner

Shutts & Bowen is pleased to announce that Eduardo J. De la Peña Bernal has joined its Miami office as a partner in the International Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group.

De la Peña Bernal has an Americas-wide practice focused on the representation of corporate transnational clients in an extensive variety of complex business disputes before a variety of arbitral tribunals and courts across the region.

Given his background as a dual-licensed attorney with J.D. degrees in the United States and Mexico, he seamlessly handles complex international commercial arbitration proceedings conducted in English or Spanish (or both at the same time), under the auspices of major international arbitration institutions or key regional arbitration centers, and involving either the application of U.S. law or the law of any Latin American country. He is also frequently called upon to provide advice on investment-treaty arbitration issues and to devise the overall litigation strategy, coordinating and collaborating with local counsel throughout Latin America when U.S., European and Asian based corporations face civil, criminal, administrative, or other types of litigation proceedings in the region.

“Eduardo’s extensive experience in international arbitration and litigation, coupled with his unique background as a dual licensed attorney in the U.S. and Mexico, is a true differentiator for our firm,” said Aliette DelPozo Rodz, Co-Chair of the firm’s International Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group. “His skill in effectively navigating international disputes aligns nicely with our commitment to providing our clients with comprehensive legal solutions both locally and internationally.”

De la Peña Bernal is currently serving as President of the globally recognized International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA).  He is the first Americas-based President of AIJA in more than 20 years.

“Shutts & Bowen has an established brand of excellence in the legal landscape with a truly collaborative, full-service, multilingual, and multicultural platform adapted to serve the needs of international clients doing business indistinctly across Florida and the Americas. This offers a unique opportunity to enhance my ability to serve my clients,” said De la Peña Bernal. “I am eager to contribute to expanding Shutts & Bowen’s offering of international legal services and further enhance the market leading International Litigation and Arbitration practice of the firm.”

Commenting on De la Peña Bernal’s arrival, Francis E. “Frank” Rodriguez, Chairman of the firm’s Executive Committee added, “Shutts is pleased to welcome Eduardo.  Eduardo brings additional capabilities the firm can offer our international clients as we continue to expand the panoply of services we provide.”
