Event co-emceed by actor and comedian Rob Riggle, himself a retired Marine
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (MCSF), a national nonprofit providing post-secondary education scholarships to the children of Marines, announced that its annual “Patriots at Pebble” fundraiser held at Pebble Beach Golf Links® raised over $1.2 million. The multi-day event, this year once again a sellout, included a dinner co-emceed by actor and comedian, Lieutenant Colonel Rob Riggle USMC (Ret.).
Held Saturday, February 24, through Monday, February 26, the celebration began with Marine Appreciation Day on Saturday, featuring a reception at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. Sunday evening was dedicated to the Eagle, Globe & Anchor Awards Dinner, honoring individuals and companies that have significantly impacted the lives of Marines and their families. Among the guests were Marine families, supporters, and Medal of Honor recipient Colonel Barney Barnum USMC (Ret.), who had a distinguished military career in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for over 27 years. He received the Medal of Honor for valor in Vietnam, making him the fourth Marine to be recognized with this honor.
The event also featured a speech by Marine Scholar alumnus Jake Lane, son of veteran Sergeant Timothy Lane, USMC. Sgt. Lane was formerly a part of Guard Company, the Marine protection detail for US presidents. He was assigned to President Bill Clinton. Jake graduated with honors from the University of Michigan, where he studied computer science engineering.
The weekend culminated on Monday at the Pebble Beach Golf Links®, with the Toyota Commandant’s Cup Golf Tournament. Golfers included Rob Riggle, other veterans, and VIPs from around the country.
“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown during this year’s event,” said Ted Probert, current president and CEO for the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. “Through the generosity of our attendees, sponsors, and investors, we can continue to provide invaluable support to military families, ensuring that the children of Marines have access to the educational opportunities they deserve.”
MCSF’s mission is to honor Marines by providing scholarships for their children attending post-high school, undergraduate, and career and technical education programs. For the 2023-2024 academic year, MCSF awarded $10.8 million in scholarships to 2,758 children of Marines nationwide — the largest number of scholarships and highest dollar amount ever awarded in one year in its more than 60-year history.
