Associated Black Charities Hosts One Day Teen Financial Literacy Summit

Following the resounding success of its 2023 6-week Teen Financial Literacy summer series, Associated Black Charities is thrilled to announce its inaugural Teen Financial Literacy Summit, scheduled for April 13, 2024. This summit marks a significant milestone in the organization’s commitment to empowering young individuals within the Black community with essential financial knowledge and skills.

ABC extends a warm invitation to youth ages 12-16, along with their guardians ages 18 and above, to participate in this transformative event, at no cost. Associated Black Charities recognizes not only the importance of equipping our youth with financial literacy but also the vital role played by those who support and stand behind them.

The Teen Financial Literacy Summit is more than just an event; it signifies the beginning of a movement aimed at ensuring that Black families have the requisite tools not only to succeed, but to thrive. Through its ABC Academy initiative launched in 2023, ABC firmly believes that young leaders are the cornerstone of the community, and that building a prosperous future starts with providing them with a solid foundation.

“Empower Black youth with financial literacy and watch them rewrite the narrative of generational wealth,” states Chrissy M. Thornton, President and CEO of Associated Black Charities. “By involving them in economic opportunities and financial literacy, we not only enrich their futures but transform the landscape of prosperity for generations to come.”

The initiative partners with Mr. Kerwyn Phillip and utilizes his Malik’s First Job curriculum, offering in-depth exploration into critical topics such as job search and interviewing skills, entrepreneurship, budgeting, assets, liabilities, debt management, philanthropy, investing, and navigating financial institutions.

This immersive experience will be youth-focused and interactive, featuring engaging workshops, valuable resources, and surprises throughout the day to keep participants engaged.

Each generation presents an opportunity to reshape attitudes toward money and cultivate financial freedom for future generations. While space is limited, ABC invites all to register at https://bit.ly/abcteensummit.

About Associated Black Charities

Founded in 1985, Associated Black Charities is a racial equity organization that works as an educator, advocate, supporter, and convener to address and eliminate the barriers created by structural racism and to advance long-term solutions that create new opportunities for Black people to thrive. ABC acknowledges structural racism’s effect on the racial wealth gap, workplace discrimination, health inequity, disparities in housing policies and practices, educational inequality, discriminating and dehumanizing laws and policies, and more. Using an equity framework as a convener and thought leader to end race-based barriers that impede Black people from having an opportunity to succeed is at the heart of all of ABC’s programmatic initiatives.
