Brown Advisory Appoints Eliza Erikson Head of Impact Investing & Advice

Eliza joins Brown Advisory after an extensive investing career with 20 years’ experience across a range of asset classes and industries. Her background spans both private and public, debt and equity, in the areas of education and edtech, financial services and fintech, housing, renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. “We could not be more excited to welcome Eliza to the Firm and ultimately build out a new Impact Investing platform,” said Charlie Constable, head of the U.S. Private Client, Endowments & Foundations business. “Her work across the U.S. and emerging markets, for families, foundations and companies, will be a valuable resource for clients,” he added.

Eliza was formerly the managing director and member of the investment leadership team of a large multi-generational family office where she focused on impact investing and led a team and platform operating across asset classes, strategies and portfolios. “Eliza’s family office experience and robust network, paired with the greater percentage of clients looking for investing alternatives, will be immensely additive to our growing Family Office, Endowments & Foundations, and Private Client businesses. The unprecedented inter-generational wealth transfer that is underway will only accelerate this trend,” said Dune Thorne, Chief Strategy Officer of U.S. Private Client, Endowment & Foundation Business.

Previously, Eliza was an investment partner at Omidyar Network, the impact investing vehicle of eBay co-founder Pierre Omidyar, where she led the firm’s global strategy and investments in education technology and served on the firm’s investment committee and boards of portfolio companies LearnZillion, Geekie, VidaTec, and Blended. Prior to Omidyar, Eliza was the chief lending and investment officer at Calvert Impact, where she was responsible for the management and growth of the fund and its subsidiaries’ more than $300 million in assets under management.

Earlier in her career, Eliza worked with the Corporation for Enterprise Development and the U.S. Agency for International Development, providing management consulting and investment services to development finance institutions in the United States, Latin America, South Asia, and North Africa. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, graduating magna cum laude and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.

The addition of Ms. Erikson to Brown Advisory demonstrates the firm’s continued commitment to clients with a focus on identifying talented professionals who can help contribute to clients’ long-term strategic goals. The firm believes that by identifying and partnering with people who embody Brown Advisory’s client-first, colleague-driven and community-focused culture, it can make a meaningful difference in the lives of clients and communities across the globe. “Charlie Constable and Dune Thorne have worked on this project for a while – starting with listening to our clients and what sort of advice they think will be helpful. Bringing Eliza on board is a huge step in meeting our clients’ objectives. I look forward to watching what Eliza builds at Brown Advisory,” said Michael Hankin, CEO.
