Associated Builders And Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter Recognized With House Resolution 975 In U.S. Congress For Contributions To Florida’s Construction Industry

Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter (ABC-FEC) is proud to announce that it was recognized by the U.S. Congress with House Resolution 975, acknowledging the chapter’s significant contributions to the quality of life of the people of Florida. Sponsored by Rep. Jared Moskowitz and Rep. Carlos Gimenez, the resolution highlights ABC-FEC’s longstanding commitment to advancing the merit shop construction philosophy and its vital role in Florida’s construction industry.

Established in 1968, ABC-FEC has been a leader in the commercial construction industry for nearly 56 years, representing more than 22,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms with 2,000,000 employees. The chapter’s mission revolves around promoting open competition and a free-enterprise approach in awarding construction contracts based solely on merit, regardless of labor affiliation.

“We are honored to receive this national congressional recognition,” said Peter Dyga, President and CEO of ABC-FEC.  “It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our members who strive to uphold the highest standards of excellence in construction while promoting principles of free enterprise and open competition.”

One of the key aspects emphasized in the resolution is ABC-FEC’s dedication to education and training. As the largest single provider of apprenticeship education in the State of Florida through its training arm, ABC Institute (ABCI), the chapter educates nearly 700 apprentices annually in various programs such as electrical, fire sprinkler, HVAC and plumbing, among others. These programs, offered free to apprentices, provide them with essential skills and qualifications while allowing them to earn a living wage without incurring student debt.

ABCI’s continued role as a leader and role model for apprenticeship education in the state was further bolstered in 2023 when ABCI received a $1.3 million-dollar Pathways to Career Apprenticeship (PCOG) grant to support career choices for Floridians wishing to explore career in the construction trades.  This marks the fifth consecutive year ABCI received the grant, and the program is the largest award winner.

Additionally, ABC-FEC’s contributions to the construction industry extend beyond education. The chapter engages in government representation, advocacy, communication, safety programs, technology and business development to ensure the growth, stability and success of the industry.

The resolution encourages ABC-FEC to continue its 45-year commitment to representing the merit shop construction industry, reaffirming the importance of its role in shaping Florida’s economy and infrastructure.
