Hanley Foundation, Florida’s largest nonprofit dedicated to substance use prevention, advocacy, treatment, and recovery support has announced a $35 million capital campaign initiative in support of its expansion of newly reacquired Hanley Center.
In December 2023, Hanley Foundation acquired Origins Behavioral HealthCare, a for-profit recovery and treatment facility with locations in West Palm Beach and Texas. The West Palm Beach facility had previously been under the umbrella of Hanley Foundation in the early 2000s, and the re-acquisition will once again return the facility to its nonprofit status – now known as Hanley Foundation. The facility is one of just a handful of nonprofit treatment centers nationally providing research-affirmed addiction treatment and recovery programs.
The celebratory campaign kick-off event, at the home of Joanie Van der Grift and co-hosted by Town of Palm Beach Mayor, Danielle H. Moore, highlighted the organization’s need to raise funds for capital improvements to the facility, including the addition of new and upgraded treatment pavilions on the grounds; and to increase the number of programs Hanley Center can offer, such as:
- Treatment for Peripartum and Postpartum Women
- Specialized Treatment for Veterans and First Responders
- Stand Alone Treatment for Impaired Practitioners with Licensure Requirements
- Specialized Memory Care Programming for Older Adults
- Recovery Bookstore and Coffee Shop Staffed by Individuals in Early Recovery
- Robust Vocational and Life Skills Development Programs
Hanley Foundation will also expand its work in prevention and education programming to students, teachers, professionals and first responders in additional counties across the state of Florida. The Foundation will continue to provide treatment scholarships, at Hanley’s main campus and at other vetted providers, to individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford quality care.
“Creating a full continuum of care, from prevention to treatment and offering innovative job training programs that teach applicable life skills, is key to revolutionizing the treatment industry and breaking the cycle of addiction,” added Dr. Rachel Docekal, CEO of Hanley Foundation. “We aim to change the conversation, fill the treatment gaps, establish a robust recovery community, and offer the support needed for individuals to live a life of possibility and purpose.”
Thus far, Hanley Foundation has raised $10 million toward the campaign, including contributions from each of its 19 board members. Lead gifts have been given by the Mary Alice Fortin Foundation, Jeff and Aggie Stoops of the Stoops Family Foundation, and Gary, Deedee and Cam Harris. Gary Harris will serve as Chairman of the Capital Campaign.
The re-acquisition and capital improvements are not only a strategic move for the community resource; they represent a deeply personal journey for the founders of Hanley Center.
