
Thoracic surgeon Erik Sylvin, M.D. has joined Holy Cross Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician employed group of more than 130 physicians providing services throughout Broward County.
Board certified in thoracic surgery and general surgery and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and General Thoracic Surgery Club, Dr. Sylvin has extensive experience performing numerous types of robotic, minimally invasive thoracic procedures. Dr. Sylvin treats lung and esophageal cancer, mediastinal masses, thymoma, paraesophageal hernia, hyperhidrosis, Barrett’s esophagus, achalasia, chest wall and Pancoast tumors, tracheal stenosis, esophageal perforation, benign lung and esophagus tumors, congenital disorders of the diaphragm, thoracic outlet syndrome, esophageal diverticulum and mesothelioma.
Prior to joining Holy Cross Health, Dr. Sylvin was an attending physician with Florida Heart and Vascular Center at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Florida. He was previously an attending physician at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania and at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian.
As an undergrad at Brandeis University in Massachusetts, Dr. Sylvin played in four NCAA tournaments as a member of the varsity baseball team. He then earned a Master of Science in Biological Science, before earning his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in general surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian / Columbia University Irving Medical Center in Manhattan. Dr. Sylvin also completed his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, an additional fellowship in robotic thoracic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and a research fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York.
Dr. Sylvin has authored several high impact academic papers, including ones published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and CHEST. He also authored a book chapter in the American College of Surgeons textbook on the principles and practices of chest wall mass surgery. He’s presented abstracts and posters at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Chicago, Illinois; American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.; European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Meeting in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Focus on Thoracic Surgery: Mastering Surgical Innovation in Las Vegas, Nevada.
