It is official, Edgemere was voted the number one continuing care retirement community in all of Texas in 2024 and nationally ranked as number two. This distinguished recognition by Newsweek and Statista places Edgemere on top among over 2000 communities evaluated for this year’s “America’s Best Continuing Care Retirement Communities”. The results were collected from a range of surveys sent to residents, prospective residents, and family members, as well as employees and associated healthcare professionals during August and September. This notable recognition is powerful evidence of Edgemere’s enduring dedication to providing exceptional service and care to its residents and reinforces its position as a leader in the senior living industry.
The commendation comes on the heels of an announcement earlier in November recognizing The Plaza at Edgemere in the top 3% of healthcare centers across the United States according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Long-Term Care and Short-Term Rehabilitation rankings. The Plaza earned Best Nursing Home status by achieving a rating of “High Performing,” the highest possible rating, for both Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care. The award-winning facility also received their most recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) report and, again, received an overall five-star rating for 2023, a significant accomplishment.
These recent accolades, although unexpected, were not a surprise to the new ownership Bay 9 Holdings LLC, an affiliate of Lapis Advisers LP. Bay 9 Holdings together with Long Hill at Edgemere LLC, took over control in June 2023 and they have been focused on charting a course of success for this Dallas landmark. United by a shared vision, these organizations are resolutely intent on delivering a comprehensive and exceptional continuum of care and services at Edgemere. Since the transition, they have worked collaboratively to infuse the community with robust financial and operational support, reinvigorating Edgemere’s hallmark brand. Lapis also engaged Certus Financial to lead the process of designing new model units that allow prospects to customize finishes and to appoint their retirement units to their taste and desires. This concerted effort has proven invaluable for residents, their families, and associates, ensuring Edgemere’s ongoing commitment to remain the top offering within the Greater Dallas market.
“It is clear that Edgemere is a special place, and we are so proud to see it flourish,” said Kjerstin Hatch, Founder and Managing Principal for Lapis Advisers, LP.
“Receiving these two, top national award recognitions are evidence of the commitment of our community and leadership teams to quality, and creating environments where residents can grow and thrive,” said David Lawlor, President and CEO of The Long hill Company. “We are honored to be entrusted with the community’s stewardship and work with a dynamic group of residents and staff.”
Edgemere provides living options along the continuum, including independent living, assisted living, memory support, short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care.
Resident Association member, Erle Nye notes, “This community has always been special and tight-knit, and it’s due to the amazing residents who live here and the wonderful staff members who are so committed to providing excellent service and care every day.”
Executive Director, John Falldine believes, “The support from Lapis and Long Hill have poised us for ongoing, future success. They recognize how special Edgemere is and are steadfast in their commitment to taking already top-tier services and further enhancing them to the delight of our residents. They seek to empower our local team leaders and seek resident perspectives as they look for new and innovative ways to set Edgemere apart from other communities in the market.”
According to Jill Sandbo, whose mother is a resident of The Plaza at Edgemere, Edgemere’s commitment to excellence is more than just a promise. It’s reality her family has seen in action. “Edgemere’s devotion to my mother’s care has been steadfast. Associates have consistently gone above and beyond, demonstrating that despite any struggles, her well-being is always paramount. It’s this compassion and resolve that reassures us daily about the compassionate care she receives at Edgemere.”
For tenured Edgemere associates, like Lucinda Gray who has worked at the community for 15 years, the past 6 of which she has served as Director of Assisted Living and Memory Care of The Plaza at Edgemere, consistently ensuring resident well-being is imperative. “Every aspect of our work centers around the individual needs and comfort of our residents. Their safety, happiness, and overall quality of life are our top priorities,” said Gray. “This is more than a job. It’s a daily pledge to foster an environment where residents feel valued, secure, and truly at home.”
