Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter Partners with Brevard County Sheriff’s Office

Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter (ABC-FEC) recently concluded the 28th Annual Handlebars for the Holidays event, donating 360 bicycles, helmets and locks for children in need in Brevard County.

Since 1995, ABC-FEC has worked to award bicycles to children in the community who might not receive a bicycle otherwise. Over its 28-year history, Handlebars for the Holidays has given out more than 9,500 bicycles.

In 2013, ABC-FEC partnered with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to expand the program even further in the community adding a partnership with the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, helmets are sourced.

“Handlebars for the Holidays is a way for the Space Coast’s construction community to come together and give back,” said Stefanie Reardon, Regional Vice President for the Space and Treasure Coasts for ABC-FEC. “We are amazed by the outpouring of support we receive each and every year.”

ABC-FEC members began with a fundraiser in July. The bikes were securely stored by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office before being gifted to children at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Farm at a community event on December 9.
