Lake Worth High School Director of Bands Dr. Tiffany Cox Named Palm Beach Symphony Instrumental Music Teacher of The Year

Revered for her many skills and known for her dedication to the well-being of her students, their families and the community she serves, Lake Worth High School Director of Bands Dr. Tiffany Cox has been named as Palm Beach Symphony’s 2023 Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Cox’s many other accolades include receiving the Randolph A. Frank Prize in 2021, the Tom Bishop Award from the Florida Bandmasters Association and the Queen Smith Award from the Council of Great City Schools as well as being named the 2023 Educator of the Year by Palm Beach Illustrated, as Teacher of the Year by the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County and as Emerging Leader by the Florida Music Educators Association. She has been recognized as a Grammy® National Music Educator Award quarterfinalist four times.

Active in community and professional organizations, Dr. Cox is an active presenter and member of the Palm Beach County Band Directors Association, Florida Music Educators Association, International Women’s Brass Conference and Florida Bandmasters Association.

A graduate of Spanish River High School, Dr. Cox earned her undergraduate degree at Florida State University before receiving a Master of Education in Elementary Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Cox was chosen as Palm Beach Symphony’s Instrumental Music Teacher of the Year by a panel of judges comprised of musicians and industry professionals. As this year’s winner she received a “Basket of Indulgences” filled with gift items and local gift certificates as well as opportunities for her students that include coaching sessions by Palm Beach Symphony musicians, a classroom visit by Symphony Music Director Gerard Schwarz, an invitation for a student music ensemble to perform at a Symphony event and complimentary tickets for her students to attend a Symphony concert this season.

Students, parents, colleagues and members of the community are asked to nominate an outstanding instrumental music teacher for the award. Nominations will reopen in fall 2024.
