Carlyle’s David Rubenstein Reportedly In Talks To Buy Baltimore Orioles

David Rubenstein, the co-founder of investment firm Carlyle Group (NASDAQ:CG), is among suitors in discussions to buy Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles, according to a Thursday media report.

Nothing has yet to be finalized and talks may still fall apart, Bloomberg reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The news comes as stakes in U.S. sports teams have kept changing hands as owners seek to capitalize on higher valuations, the article noted. Last year, billionaire Rubenstein told key Orioles backers that he would explore purchasing the team if it comes on the market.

Billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin recently acquired a minority stake in the National Football League’s Miami Dolphins, Bloomberg has reported.
