Fair Access Committee Statement on Election of Friedson as Montgomery County Council President and Stewart as Vice President

The Fair Access Committee for Western Montgomery County applauds the election of District 1 Council Member Andrew Friedson to become the next President of the Montgomery County Council. Committee Chair Link Hoewing said “Andrew was our council member before the redistricting of the Council and was instrumental in helping our area secure funding to rebuild and modernize our outdated high school. He is an innovative, inclusive, and results-focused council member and we look forward to working with him to continue the progress we have made in ensuring equity for our citizens in the Western County.”

He also praised the election of District 4 Council Member Kate Stewart to be Vice President of the County Council. “Kate Stewart has been out to Poolesville and the Western County a number of times and has shown a willingness to listen and learn about the needs of our area,” said Hoewing. “She is a dynamic leader who is committed to equity in how the county deals with policies. We welcome her as the new Vice President and look forward to her leadership and support.”

The Committee also offered praise for the leadership of Evan Glass in his role as Council President over the past year. “Evan has also been a true friend of the Western County,” Hoewing noted. “He has been out to some of our many events in Poolesville, held an oversight hearing on White’s Ferry, and has been supportive of our key issues, including addressing health care in our area. We wish him well as he leaves the presidency.”
