Second Front Systems, which enables secure delivery of commercial software to governments, has closed on a $40 million Series B round led by NEA.
Also participating were current investors New York-based Moore Strategic Ventures and AEI HorizonX, the venture capital unit of Florida-based AE Industrial Partners. So far, the Wilmington, Del., startup has raised $82.1 million.
“This significant investment represents a strong vote of confidence in the Second Front team, our vision for the Game Warden platform, and the value we’re delivering for our customers,” said Second Front CEO Tyler Sweatt, who works out of Ashburn, Va.
“By removing the complexity from deploying and consuming commercial software across the public sector, we’re transforming the relationship between two critical communities while improving national security,” added Sweatt, who was previously the head of national security at CalypsoAI.
Sweatt previously founded the technology consulting firm Future Tense. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he is a partner at the nonprofit Silicon Valley Defense Group.
Subsequent to the funding, NEA partner Aaron Jacobson will join the company’s board, and serve alongside Drew Podgorski of Moore Strategic Ventures, Westinghouse Electric’s Matt Conner, who previously served as chief information security officer of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Chairman Peter Dixon, and Sweatt.

“Deploying software to government purchasers has historically been a challenging, expensive, and time-consuming process,’ said Jacobson, adding that Second Front’s technology changes the landscape, allowing businesses to bring software to governments “within days, not years.”

Game Warden, Second Front’s DevSecOps platform, enables commercial vendors to deploy software to Department of Defense customers in a “secure, cost-effective, and rapid manner,” Jacobson and Mustafa Neemuchwala, also a partner at NEA, said in a blog post. It also enables deployment on multiple public clouds and DoD impact levels, with FedRamp, StateRamp, expanded classified networks, and certifications required by U.S. allies in the works, they added.
Growth Momentum
Second Front said it has grown over threefold on a year-on-year basis, as it expands internationally with an initial focus on the United Kingdom, Australia and the NATO. It recently opened an office in the United Kingdom. The company said the latest funding fund round will help it accelerate “expanded capabilities across classified networks and additional security regimes.”
Aalyria, a U.S. networking company, and Adarga, a U.K. artificial-intelligence software provider, are among users of Second Front’s Game Warden. AFWERX Prime, a division of the U.S. Air Force, recently signed on to use Game Warden for a major USAF Autonomy program.
