SGA|NW, a GF Design Company, has hired Kelly Hosack as the Managing Director of the Charleston Office and Amy Barrett as the Director of Business Development. With more than 50 employees across five offices in Charleston, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, and Pawleys Island, S.C., and Charlotte, N.C., the architecture and planning firm specializes in mixed-use, multifamily, healthcare, and higher education projects for both private and public sector clients.
SGA|NW is known for its team of highly experienced design and planning professionals who combine the disciplines of architecture, interior design, land planning, and landscape architecture to curate a holistic and balanced approach to the built environment. The firm’s projects have received awards and landmark recognition, especially in historic areas of the Carolinas like downtown Charleston.
With the new hires, the firm is getting ahead of several trends: the expected growth of ambulatory surgical centers and healthcare systems as South Carolina eliminates its certificate of need program; the move towards more efficient practices in healthcare and industrial architecture; and the need for land planning in the Carolinas as the population grows. In response to these trends, SGA|NW remains true to providing effective solutions to large-scale clients across various industries while instilling a personalized, southern mentality in each endeavor. With its Charleston roots, the firm welcomes new hires with vast experience to tackle these trends.
Hosack has worked on expansions for inpatient facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, medical office buildings, athletic facilities, and allied health programs and has designed large, complex projects. “I’m excited to bring my nearly 20 years of experience, my passion, and my connections across the country to this firm,” she said. One recent example of work in this area is SGA|NW’s project to expand outpatient facilities for a major university hospital.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Kelly and Amy to our expanding team,” said Scott Loikits, AIA, Managing Director of Design. “Kelly brings extensive experience in healthcare and higher education, while Amy has experience as a leader in land use planning. These are growing areas in Charleston and across this region, and their expertise will benefit our clients, our team, and our entire community.”
Barrett will focus externally on deepening B2B relationships and broadening the firm’s client base. She brings more than 20 years of land use planning and real estate development to the firm, where she’ll focus on increasing the firm’s brand awareness and securing new partnerships in Charleston and across the U.S. Prior to joining SGA|NW, Barrett was president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance and, prior to that, executive director of ULI South Carolina. She also served as the City of Charleston’s Director of Business and Neighborhood Services and was Vice President of Permar, Inc., a market research firm focused on the real estate industry. Barrett is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston and a former Peace Corps volunteer.
“As an experienced urban planner, I’m thrilled to be back in Charleston, where I can grow our land planning services, expand our client base, and work on great projects that help our region grow responsibly,” Barrett said.
