citybiz+ Gomboc.ai Raises $5.2 Million in Seed Round

New York-based Gomboc.ai, which is developing an AI-powered platform to enhance the security of cloud infrastructure, has closed a seed round of over $5.2 million. The round was led by Israel’s Glilot Capital and Hetz Ventures, with participation from angel investors.

The startup, which emerged out of stealth with announcement of the funding, said it has completed private beta testing and that its platform is in use by Fortune 500 and Global 2000 companies.

“We are delivering on the promise of true remediation,” said Gomboc co-founder and CEO Ian Amit, a security veteran who has held C-suite positions at cybersecurity firms Cimpress and Rapid7.

Remediation Magic

“Many security platforms have been created to tell you what issues to fix, why to fix them, and in what order you should fix them for the highest impact. Instead, our approach with Gomboc is to use AI to provide context-aware remediations immediately and present the solution to DevOps teams to approve,” he added.

Amit and Jonathan Desrocher, a former Amazon and EMC engineer, co-founded Gomboc after connecting when working together at Amazon. Desrocher serves as Gomboc’s chief technology officer.

Gomboc’s “deterministic” AI engine produces precise and secure “Infrastructure as Code.” Trained nightly for ongoing updates to a cloud environment, security teams can continuously enforce cloud security policies, allowing DevOps teams to immediately approve and deploy remediations, the company said. Gomboc claims that its engine does not suffer from so-called hallucinations or randomness that undermine AI platforms, and instead generates “statistically correct” outcomes.

‘Time Machine for DevOps’
Glilot Capital founder Kobi Samboursky termed as “refreshing and logical,” Gomboc’s approach to both cloud security and AI, as it addresses the remediation headache for security and DevOps teams alike. “They have engineered an extremely defensible strategy to fix a painful issue plaguing cloud security. We believe it will quickly become essential to every CISO’s portfolio,” he said.

A seed and early-stage venture fund, Glilot Capital invests in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and big data companies. It has raised $607 million from investors.

Another investor, Hetz Ventures’ Pavel Livshiz, called Gomboc a “time machine” for security and DevOps. “It saves countless hours chasing misconfigurations and researching issues,” said Livshiz.
