Coastal Heritage Bank Members Volunteer At NeighborWorks Housing Solutions Marshfield Veterans Home

NeighborWorks® Housing Solutions (NHS; www.nhsmass.org), the leading housing service provider in southern Massachusetts, gratefully welcomed staff members from Coastal Heritage Bank (www.coastalheritagebank.com) who recently put their volunteer skills to work at the NHS Veterans Home on Ocean Street in Marshfield.

Coastal Heritage Bank sent nine volunteers from across their branch locations to help prepare the Veteran’s Home for the upcoming summer.  The group laid down nearly eight yards of black mulch, which was kindly donated by Smith & Son’s Landscaping of Marshfield.  The volunteers also worked to build vegetable gardens and planter boxes and planted new flowers and vegetables for the veterans.  The plants and flowers were provided by Kennedy Country Gardens in Scituate.

“Volunteering in our community is an important aspect of our work,” said Leah Will, Human Resource Specialist for Coastal Heritage Bank.  “We feel that investing in our community through volunteer work makes us a better community partner.  It is important to us that we learn more about the work being done by our nonprofit partners and find multiple ways to lend our support.”

Mid-way through the day, volunteers and tenants enjoyed lunch in the common area, and took advantage of some much-needed air conditioning.  The Coastal Heritage Bank volunteers concluded their work in the early afternoon.

Opened in November of 2021, the Marshfield Veterans Home is located on the site of the former Old South Grammar School, which was renovated to create eight affordable housing units for homeless or at-risk veterans.

“We were delighted to welcome the volunteers from Coastal Heritage Bank,” said Robert Corley, CEO of NeighborWorks Housing Solutions.  “We have had a long-standing relationship with them, and we are grateful that we could work together on this great project that ultimately benefits eight veterans living in our house in Marshfield.  We are grateful to Coastal Heritage Bank for their support.”
