Courtney T. Joiner Joins McGlinchey Stafford

McGlinchey Stafford is pleased to announce that litigator Courtney T. Joiner has joined the firm’s Labor and Employment group as a member (partner) in the Baton Rouge office. Courtney is the eleventh attorney to join McGlinchey firm-wide in May alone, and the thirteenth to join in Louisiana in the past year.

Courtney practices in the areas of labor and employment, education law, and civil litigation. He has worked on a variety of significant cases including one which required the Louisiana Supreme Court to clarify the scope of the school employee immunity law. He has also served as special counsel to the State of Louisiana, the City of Monroe, and local counsel to the nation’s largest freight railroad company.

McGlinchey impressed me with its culture and its overall commitment to doing excellent work,” Courtney said. “I look forward to growing my practice alongside and collaborating with these colleagues whom I admire.”

Immediately before joining McGlinchey, Courtney worked at a civil defense firm in Baton Rouge. Before that, he was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Louisiana, where he served as the Chief of the Financial Litigation Unit. Courtney began his legal career at the Chicago office of an international law firm and represented banks in structured finance, asset securitization, and secured lending transactions.

“I am very proud to add such a tenacious, thoughtful attorney to our team in Baton Rouge,” said Zelma Murray Frederick, Managing Member of McGlinchey’s Baton Rouge office.  “Courtney is a versatile, talented litigator who goes above and beyond for his clients, and we could not be happier to have him join our firm.”

Courtney earned his law degree from the Southern University of Law Center, where he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Southern University Law Review. He holds a B.A. and M.A. degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he was a student-athlete and a member of the ULM football and track teams.

“We’re honored Courtney chose to join McGlinchey and look forward to his contributions to our section and our firm,” said Mag Bickford, Chair of McGlinchey’s Labor and Employment Group. “His strong background representing municipal and governmental clients, as well as financial services clients, will bring a great perspective to our team.”

McGlinchey’s Labor and Employment practice group advises on the full range of workplace issues and disputes facing private and public companies. Attorneys provide counseling and training to enable clients’ human resources and legal departments to meet regulatory compliance obligations, forestall and mitigate disputes, and handle the many and varied day-to-day operational situations which, if unattended, can ensnare even award-winning employers.
