MPT to Premiere Social Security & You with Mary Beth Franklin on June 3

Social Security expert provides information to navigate complex financial planning choices 

Maryland Public Television (MPT) will premiere its original special Social Security & You with Mary Beth Franklin on MPT-HD and the MPT live stream at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 3.

Encore presentations of Social Security & You with Mary Beth Franklin will air on Thursday, June 8 at 8 p.m. on MPT-HD and Friday, June 9 at 8 p.m. on MPT2/Create®. The program will also be available for members with MPT Passport to view on-demand using MPT’s online video player and the PBS App following its broadcast premiere.

Social Security is a complex puzzle with more than 2,700 regulations. In the one-hour Social Security & You with Mary Beth Franklin, the financial journalist and Social Security expert guides viewers through those complexities toward control of their financial future. Franklin shares concise and useful information to help maximize Social Security benefits. Viewers will learn how to navigate the factors that most commonly impact benefits, from timing of claims to income to marital status.

Social Security & You with Mary Beth Franklin offers guidance not only to individuals currently nearing retirement age, but also those caring for aging relatives, weighing childcare options, facing marital status changes, or plotting career paths. Franklin also tackles the big questions about the future of Social Security. “Maybe you’re wondering, ‘is Social Security going to be there for me?’ If so, this is the program for you,” says Franklin.

Franklin will join MPT’s “First Lady” Rhea Feikin and on-air talent Tony Hill as part of a live pledge event taking place throughout the program’s June 3 premiere. During several interview segments, she will provide additional context and insights about the program.
