Jay Alicandri and Ken Young Appointed as Co-Chairs of Dechert’s Global Corporate and Securities Practice

Jay Alicandri and Ken Young will assume new roles as co-chairs of Dechert corporate and securities practice, a global team of lawyers located in 14 offices across eight countries. Ken Young is co-head of Dechert’s private equity group, while Jay Alicandri is a leader of the firm’s permanent capital and private credit practice and co-head of Dechert’s global finance practice. Their combined experience underscores the strength of Dechert’s M&A, capital markets and finance capabilities, making them well-positioned to build on the successful leadership of Mark Thierfelder, who will become Dechert co-chair on July 1, 2023.

Alicandri represents large alternative asset managers and other financial institutions. He has played a pivotal role in driving the growth of the firm’s private credit practice, which today represents more than 75% of Private Debt Investor’s top 100 private debt firms.

“Dechert’s corporate practice has grown tremendously as the entire alternative asset management landscape has transformed,” said Alicandri. “Mark has done an extraordinary job leading through that change, and Ken and I are honored to continue the growth and innovation that he has championed.”

Young focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, including private equity buyouts and strategic M&A, and capital markets, with particular experience in the financial services and technology sectors. He has been instrumental in the continued growth of the firm’s private equity practice, which this past year advised on US$185 billion worth of transactions globally, including two of the top five largest U.S. private equity buyouts.

“Dechert has played a leading role in private equity since the earliest days of the industry,” said Young. “We’re excited to keep building on that as well as other sectors, such as financial services, life sciences, real estate and technology, where Dechert also brings detailed insights and deep business understanding to drive value for our clients.”

“We are proud that when clients need legal advice that is critical to managing their business and their capital, they turn to Dechert,” said Thierfelder. “While I am looking forward to assuming my new role as co-chair of Dechert effective July 1, I will maintain my private equity and strategic M&A practice, staying close to the market and continuing to serve our clients on their most complex transactions and other legal and regulatory matters. I am very pleased that Jay and Ken have agreed to assume their new responsibilities, and I cannot think of two more talented and committed individuals to lead our Corporate and Securities practice.
