The workspace incorporates innovation and collaboration to accommodate RMA’s transition to hybrid work
Meyer, an award-winning commercial architecture and interior design firm based in Philadelphia, has announced the completion of Risk Management Association’s new hybrid corporate headquarters. Risk Management Association (RMA) is a member-driven nonprofit organization with the purpose of advancing risk education and principles in the financial services industry for more than 1,600 members.
Designed by Meyer, RMA’s new corporate headquarters, located in downtown Philadelphia, opened for use by staff in October 2022 following six months of construction. The approximately 6,000 square foot hybrid space at One Commerce Square embraces the principles of the transformed workplace. Highlighting the need for collaboration and flexibility through design, the headquarters features an open-café concept, a large conference space with telescoping walls, and stylish, comfortable furniture and seating throughout.
“Before the pandemic, offices were focused on building internal innovation centers where employees could collaborate easily. Now, offices are the innovation centers,” said Debra Breslow, Principal and Corporate Practice Leader at Meyer. “We designed the RMA headquarters to reflect these principles and to create a carefully curated destination where employees and members alike can feel a sense of belonging, with an elevated workplace experience whenever they enter the office.”
RMA came to Meyer in 2021 looking to reduce their real estate footprint following the nonprofit’s decision to transition to a hybrid work model. After a discovery phase, which included visioning sessions and tours of workplace and innovation centers, the team at Meyer was tasked with creating an experience for RMA’s members and 85 employees by incorporating a variety of technology-forward collaborative meeting spaces and focus areas throughout the workspace. As a nod to RMA’s 100-year history, Meyer incorporated elements of the firm’s past throughout the design, lining the walls of shared spaces with historic hand-signed charters, photographs, and collections of books.
The Meyer team also included Project Manager Jess Nixon and Designer Dana Sweeney. Other project team members included CBRE, Bala Consulting Engineers, Watchdog Real Estate Project Management, C. Erickson Construction, and Commercial Furniture Interiors (CFI).
Last summer, Meyer marked the opening of Rite Aid’s new Collaboration Center, one of the country’s first remote-first corporate headquarters, in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. Meyer has designed corporate offices for companies nationwide, with a focus on creating unique spaces that support each client’s brand, culture, and vision while incorporating elements of wellness, inclusion, and sustainability.
