CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Appoints Dan Zohorsky as Vice President, Strategy & Corporate Development

Today, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, the largest not-for-profit health plan in the mid-Atlantic region, announced Daniel (Dan) Zohorsky’s role as Vice President, Strategy & Corporate Development.

As the leader of the Strategy & Corporate Development team, Zohorsky will use his combined expertise in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate strategy to sharpen CareFirst’s influence amongst payers and streamline its internal capabilities. CareFirst is focused on taking a broader look at the healthcare ecosystem, and Zohorsky is known as a thought leader within M&A circles, widely sought after for his advice on navigating potential partnerships that may alter the healthcare delivery space.

Zohorsky brings over ten years of experience leading strategy and inorganic growth to this role. Zohorsky will lead a team specifically focused on developing CareFirst’s inorganic growth strategy, identifying market insights and using that intelligence to make decisions, streamlining the corporate planning process, and providing business consulting. His team will more readily leverage externally focused activities and industry trends to further CareFirst’s vision to drive healthcare transformation from areas beyond what’s traditional in the payer space.

“CareFirst’s efforts to transform healthcare for our community requires unifying healthcare quality, accessibility, and equity,” said Ricardo Johnson, Executive Vice President for Strategy and Emerging Business of CareFirst. Dan has a strong ability to analyze opportunities and turn ideas into successful execution, which are vital components of where we are going as a company.”

“I am excited to take on a role that combines the shaping of enterprise strategy with the execution of strategic partnerships and investments,” Zohorsky shared. “Moving the needle on the healthcare experience requires thinking differently about collaboration and forming partnerships with stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem.”

Before joining CareFirst, Zohorsky served as the Strategy Director in Anthem’s Diversified Business Group (now Carelon) and was responsible for developing Partnership Strategy and M&A. Prior to Anthem, he worked in corporate development leadership and investment banking roles in the chemical and industrial markets.

Zohorsky currently serves on the Board of Redeemer Parish Day School and lives with his wife and four children in North Baltimore.
