Skanska to Build New Life Sciences and Engineering Building at George Mason University’s Prince William County Campus

Global development and construction firm Skanska has been selected by George Mason University (GMU) to build the new Life Sciences and Engineering Building at the school’s Prince William County Science and Technology (SciTech) Campus.

The $83.6 million,132,000-square-foot Life Sciences and Engineering Building will support students enrolled in STEM-H majors, such as kinesiology, materials science, forensic science, bioengineering and mechanical engineering. The facility will also include specialized instructional labs, classrooms, experiential learning laboratories, and faculty and administrative offices to support growing student and faculty communities on the SciTech Campus.

“George Mason’s new science building will support the university’s strategic goal to accommodate the mounting demand for STEM-H degrees and deepen the academic footprint on this campus,” said Dale Kopnitsky, executive vice president responsible for Skanska’s Washington, DC building operations. “Skanska is honored to be part of a higher education project that also attracts businesses, advances the region’s innovation industries and drives economic growth in Prince William County.”

The building will be used by the College of Engineering and Computing, the College of Science, the College of Education and Human Development, and the College of Visual and Performing Arts. It is an integral part of the university’s new Innovation Town Center, which will provide students at the SciTech Campus with a residential campus experience from their freshman year through their post-graduate work.

GMU’s SciTech Campus provides convenient university access for citizens of Prince William, Fauquier, and western Fairfax counties; the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park; and adjoining areas to the west and south.
