2022’s Best & Worst States for Jobs – WalletHub Study

With the unemployment rate at 3.7% and many businesses desperate to hire workers, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2022’s Best & Worst States for Jobs, as well as accompanying videos and expert commentary.

To ease the process of finding employment for job seekers, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 35 key indicators of job-market strength, opportunity and economic vitality. The data set ranges from employment growth to median annual income to average commute time.

Best vs. Worst

  • Indiana has the highest monthly average starting salary, $4,205, which is 2.1 times higher than in Alaska, the lowest at $1,980.
  • New Hampshire has the lowest unemployment rate, 1.90 percent, which is 2.6 times lower than in Nevada, the highest at 5.00 percent.
  • Maryland has the fewest part-time employees per 100 full-time employees, 40.15, which is 1.6 times fewer than in Alaska, the most at 64.95.
  • New Hampshire has the lowest share of workers living in poverty, 3.20 percent, which is 2.9 times lower than in New Mexico, the highest at 9.27 percent.
